Donald Sher Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce that Donald Stephen Sher died in the early hours of December 21, 2015. Born in Chicago, Illinois, on May 20, 1944, Don had too short a life, but still managed to enjoy a wealth of diverse experiences and many adventures. He loved the outdoors, being on the water or in the mountains, but just as much loved good food and all the comforts of home. Survived by his mother, Helen Sher, and his sister, Judy Goldstein, his nephews, Michael and David, his niece, Elena, his much loved extended family and a wide circle of wonderful friends. Don deeply appreciated those special friends who helped care for him and comfort him over the last year, including Ann Hillyer and Bill Munn who dedicated an enormous amount of time and energy to Don's well-being during this difficult time. Special thanks to Emily Vitalista who expertly cared for Don during his last seven months, to the Community Care Team who provided ongoing support, and to the Palliative Response Team from Victoria Hospice who compassionately cared for Don and those of us caring for him, making it possible for Don to peacefully die in the comfort of his own home. An event celebrating Don's life will be held in the new year.

Don's wry humour, brilliant insight and high standards were gifts to a young and inexperienced congregational leader, and I deeply valued him. He made me laugh, kept me on the right path, and became a much loved friend. He will truly be missed.
