Doreen Todd Obituary
TODD, Doreen June 17, 1928 - March 25, 2022 We are saddened to announce the passing of Doreen Todd in Victoria on March 25th, 2022. Predeceased by her sisters Gloria and Florence and her husband of 67 years, Sidney. She is survived by her daughters Moira, Karen and Linda, grandchildren William, Robert, Leona, Robert, Duncan, Brae, Scotty and great-grandchildren Danika, Alisia, Keelan, Hailey. Mum had a happy childhood growing up on the King's estate at Sandringham in Norfolk, England where her father worked as a groundskeeper. She excelled at school and won the King's Bible for scriptures. After finishing school she left home for London, where she spent several years working for a government ministry. It was in London where she met Sidney at a war time dance. They soon married and within a couple of years had delivered three daughters; Moira, Karen and Linda. In 1964, while the girls were still small the family immigrated to Canada to join Dad's brother, Norman who was practicing as a physician in Chilliwack. A year later, Dad landed a job as an instructor at BCIT and the family moved to North Burnaby where they spent many happy years. Once the children started attending school Mum began a 20 career with Simon Fraser University Library, eventually retiring as Supervisor of the Loan's Division. Mum and Dad travelled extensively, including many returns trips to the "Old Country". They were inseparable…with Dad serving as Mum's personal chauffeur for her daily outings to the shops. In the early 90's they had a home built in Arbutus Ridge, where they made many new friends. In time Mum's driver tired of making weekly trips over the Malahat and so they settled in Victoria to be closer to family. Throughout her life Mum had a passion for keeping fit. She played grass hockey, tennis, and a mean game of table tennis. She was keen on exercise classes and especially loved to walk. She was particularly proud of completing the "Miles for Millions" walk twice. Mum celebrated seasonal holidays in a big way. Especially Christmas. She loved to decorate her home and made special treats or meals for every occasion. She also loved to laugh and enjoyed a good joke… even at her own expense. She possessed a feisty spirit and delighted in recounting stories from her childhood over a glass of dry sherry. Mum moved into Mt St Mary's Hospital soon after Dad was placed in care. He passed away in November of 2020. Now she's finally been reunited with her life partner and faithful driver. A celebration of Mum's life will be held later this summer.
