Dorothy CHUTTER Obituary

Dorothy Paterson Chutter (Moore) (September 21, 1924-June 20, 2021) passed away peacefully in her sleep with her heart full of gratitude for a long life well-lived. She is predeceased by her husband, Peter Chutter and her sister, Joan Ristenpart. Dorothy devoted herself to her family, Gordon Chutter (Claire) Cathy Dykeman (Bruce), Daphne Hitchcock (Paul). She felt blessed to have grandchildren, Jennifer, James, Jane, Gillian, Jonathan, Anne, William, Susan, Emma, Ian, Erin, and Katrina, and 18 great-grandchildren in her life, as well as many nieces and nephews. She enjoyed sharing their interests and nurturing their dreams through conversations and by exchanging letters through which she stayed connected until their next treasured visit. Dorothy grew up in Vancouver, and served the war effort by joining the WCRNS, stationed at HMSC Coverdale, New Brunswick. Her duty there directly contributed to the work of Bletchley Park and for that, in 2020, she was honoured with a medal of service. Dorothy completed a BA at UBC in 1947. She remained an avid reader throughout her life and was interested in US and Canadian politics, Canadian history, and her personal ancestry. She fostered a love of learning in her children and grandchildren.
Dorothy was devoted to investing her time in relationships. She remained life-long friends with her high school pals, her sorority sisters, and her past neighbours. She sought, in her quiet and steadfast way, opportunities to support others as a volunteer. All these ordinary acts of care for others have added up to an extraordinary legacy of love. Family and friends will be notified of the details of the celebration of Dorothy's life.

I would like to offer my condolences to Dorothy's family & friends. I met Dorothy when I joined St George's church in Cadboro Bay, Victoria and became a member of the Chancel Guild. Dorothy was warm & welcoming and had been very involved for many years. She was getting older & retired from that group as the years went by. I last spoke to her on the phone a few years ago, not long after she moved into long term care. (She was in her nineties.) Dorothy loved her family & her friends. She was a lovely person. I am sending best wishes on behalf of St George's Chancel Guild.
