Dorothy Day Obituary
DAY, Dorothy
October 4, 1930 - August 2, 2025
In Loving Memory
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dorothy (Dot) Day on August 2nd. Dot was predeceased by her husband, Rob, on June 5th of this year.
Dot spent her childhood in Kaslo, later moved to Victoria with her parents, and married Rob on August 1, 1953. This year would have been their 72nd anniversary.
Being in the navy Rob was often away at sea leaving Dot to raise the three kids. Dot didn't let the lack of a Drivers License get in the way of sneaking into Shawnigan Lake village for groceries, taking kids to the school bus on a Honda 70, or racing across fields in an old Land Rover to get a better picture of a bear.
Dot was famous in the family for her brownies and for her Christmas cake, a recipe handed down from her mother. The batter was so tasty she would keep a little aside for when licking out the pan just wasn't enough.
Dot participated in all of Rob's adventures from farms, sawmills, and caretaking islands, to tents, boats and RVs, albeit more happily in some than in others. Perhaps her favourite adventure was simply going for drives with Rob. And she was complicit with Rob in buying over 40 Fords over the years.
Dot never liked to talk about herself, never complained about anything, was always upbeat and rarely got angry. If she was annoyed it usually related to Rob's shenanigans and resulted in a "Robert!" admonishment. She liked playing games, going to dances and spending time with family and friends. Days before she passed, when asked what she wanted for her 95th birthday, in a weak voice but without hesitation she said, "a happy family".
In the last half of their lives Dot and Rob were inseparable and it seems that held true to the very end.
Dot is survived by her children Terry, Larry (Karen), Bill (Jackie), 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Our thanks to the wonderful staff at Discovery Harbour Seniors Community with a special shout out to the Read Island group for their care and compassion.
Per Dot's wishes there will be no service.
