Dorothy Emblem Obituary

EMBLEM, Dorothy Kathleen (Burchell)
January 16, 1919 - September 12, 2024

Betty as she was known to many passed away peacefully on September 12th, 2024 in Saanichton, B.C.
While we are saddened by our loss we also celebrate her long, active and healthy life. Betty was born the second child to Clement and Alice Burchell of Knight Road in Comox on January 16, 1919.
As the daughter of a pioneer family she knew the value of hard work and community. Growing food for family and friends was a lifetime goal which brought profound pleasure and wonderful meals.
Betty was a charter/lifetime member of the Lazo Women's Institute, a Charter member of Pythian Sisters Temple No. 7 and a lifelong member of the Florence Chapter #53 Order of the Eastern Star. She gave back to her community through these organizations.
Married to Richard Beechie Emblem in l940, she lived her whole life in Comox except for a few months in St Thomas, Ontario and more recently in Victoria and Saanichton.
She lived in her own home until she was 103.
Betty was a shrewd card player and would beat most people. She loved her weekly card games until Covid 19 stalled them.
During her working life she was employed at the Comox Spit, the Elk Hotel and at the original St. Joseph's Hospital, retiring in 1984.
Betty is predeceased by her husband Richard Beechie 1995, her sister Marjorie 1936 and brother Leonard 2010.
She is survived by her son Richard (Susan) Emblem, daughter Vera (Stuart) Conarroe, 6 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.

A private family graveside service was held at Courtenay Civic Cemetery.

Donations in lieu of flowers in her memory to O.E.S. Florence Chapter #53 or B.C. Cancer Research Fund.
