As some of us gathered this afternoon for a family brunch with those of us here in Victoria, we remember our Mother, Dad's beloved wife:) We try to focus on our individual, amazing memories of how she touched us all in her own special way and celebrate an amazing person, our Mom! Not a day in the last two years goes by without a thought, a memory that we are reminded she is with us in spirit and in love. Thinking of you today Mother and always, I know you would be proud of us for taking care of Dad, he tells everyone how blessed he is to have his family:)

Finding the right words to describe someone as special, and that you loved so much can be more than difficult. Grandma was one of the most loving people I have ever known. She played a big part in all of our upbringings, and whether we knew it or not, she taught all of us something about love and how to really care for people. She was a natural grandmother, I feel so blessed to have had her in my life, and that I was able to have such a great relationship with her. She was one of the strongest women I have ever known, physically, mentally, and emotionally. I can't say all that I want, it would take too long, and I don't even know if I could find the words to really make my point. I loved my Grandma with my whole heart, and I know she loved all of us that exact way.
I miss my Grandma every day, her smile that can never be replicated, the way she laughed with her entire body, and you couldn't help but feel happy when she laughed like that, her voice. I would sit and visit with my grandparents for hours, and I miss that very much. I can't thank my Grandpa enough for the way he cared for my Grandma, and the love he had for her. We as a family are very blessed to have been witness to such a loving relationship as the one Grandma and Grandpa shared.
I loved my Grandma very much, and losing her has been very difficult for all of us as a family. All of our lives changed in an instant, and I don't believe that we could have prepared ourselves for what we were losing when Grandma passed. I think it would be fair to say that Grandma was the glue to a lot of us that kept the family together, but I know that she would be very proud of the way the family has come together, and it would make her very happy to see how close everyone is, and I believe she looks down and smiles her big, beautiful smile because of it.
I love you Grandma. Forever in our hearts.

I think about my Grandmother every day. Today January 22nd marks one year passing. I know you are looking down on your family from heaven. I miss you everyday and always have my memories in my heart to remember your face, your laughter and love that you had for all us. As I move forward in my life with new obstacles and decisions to make. I know you are with me on this journey. I love you Grandma and forever thank you for you and Grandpa always being their for me.
I hold a quote from the Bible in my heart,
"She is clothed in strength and dignity and she laughs without fear of the future." (Proverbs 31:25).

Many of us [here in this room] can consider ourselves lucky to have known my grandmother, but none as lucky as we grandchildren. We learnt so much from our grandmother, most importantly how to love in the purest form, something we saw every day between our grandparents. This pure love is something that we all hope to witness for ourselves. My grandmother was a powerful lady; strong willed and _____ but with a heart full of love. My grandmother lived a life of respect; she never passed judgment, and always showed acceptance. She always tried to spread happiness to others. Her greatest joy in life was to witness her family grow as one. She had this until the very end, when as a family we stood behind grandma as she rested.
My grandfather taught all of us the lesson that each one of us has our own gifts. My grandmother had many gifts that she shared with us all. She taught us respect and compassion. She taught us faith and honesty. And most importantly she taught us love and commitment.
It is most difficult to stand before you today and describe how much our grandmother meant to our family. These deepest feelings can only be experienced by the love I hold in my heart and the love you hold in all of yours. The best memories of her are of her laughter and the joy she shared with, and these memories will last forever because her love for all of us will last forever.
Grandma knows we will cry, but right now I believe that she looks down on us to say thank you for always loving her as much as she loved us. She will always be missed, but we will remember her for the goodness of her heart and the love she shared with her friends, her family, and our grandfather, who we are so lucky to be blessed with.
With love in our hearts we miss you Mom .

In loving memory of a wonderful person, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, mother in law and family member to many. We love you and miss you always. As one year since your passing is soon (January 22, 2016), we remember you fondly and keep your memories and love in our hearts. Not a day goes by without loving thoughts and cherished memories of how you touched us all and live in us today. The hummingbird symbolizes the enjoyment of life and represents a symbol of healing. As this precious animal appears just when we need it to, we pause and are reminded of you Mother. We grieve in private, remember you with love and try to share our wonderful memories to heal our souls and keep your spirit alive. Rest in the Lord's Peace - Love, your family, forever XO...

Tribute to My Grandma,
When I stop and think about what you gave me, I have no objects or mementos to remind me of you. But I don't need objects to remind me of the love you gave me, I will always have the memory that will never fade.

Choosing the words to truly express the sadness felt by your passing has proven to be a difficult task. I don't believe there are any word's that can describe the void that has been left in everyone's hearts.
Your kindness, love , wisdom and generosity touched so many people. You seemed to have endless amounts of love for everyone, regardless of the struggles you may have been having.
I know your pain is gone now and am being selfish for wishing you could have stayed longer.
Thank you for sharing your love and your family, you are the most beautiful, huggable lady I've had the privalege of knowing !
I will love and miss you always ox

To the family,
I have been trying to think of any words that could possibly do justice to the memory of your beloved wife, mom and grandma, or describe the loss she will leave in everyone's heart. There just don't seem to be any.
To say that she was a remarkable woman is an understatement, but she probably never thought of herself that way. She overcame many obstacles in her life, determined to make things better for herself and her kids, had to deal with loss and her own health challenges, but she fought through it all, right to the end of her life. She also had much happiness in her life, thanks to all of you. She always had a smile and a laugh to share, and a hug. Her family was her life and all of her children, grandchildren and little great-grandchild are her proud legacy. I know your hearts are hurting and you will all miss her terribly, but I hope you will find comfort in the many wonderful memories you have of her – hang on to those, they will always be there for you.
You have our deepest sympathies for your loss. We will miss her.

My Grandma was a gift from God. She was simply the most amazing woman I had ever known. She was a shinning star in the darkest of nights and she lit up the lives of us all. God gives every person a purpose. My grandmothers purpose was to bring us together. Even in the end she held on for us, so we could all be together to embrace her elegant life. She will forever have a special place in our hearts, and through our hearts her love and comfort will shine.
My Grandma was a beautiful person inside and out. I was lucky to have such a loving and comforting person in my life. there were so many moments when she gave me strength. I will never forget the love she gave to all the family and friends. She loved us grandchildren so much, she gave us countless amounts of comfort and care. She will forever and always be our rock and shinning star. She was always there when we needed her, and I know when we need her we must look to our hearts, because that is where she is. We couldn't ask for a better Grandma. My Grandma was devoted to my mom and her siblings. I hope one day when I have kids that I can reflect my Grandmas love. It meant so much to see how caring she was for my mom, my uncle and all of my aunts. In my eyes my Grandparents marriage was a real life fairy tale. The is scripture from The Bible that really touches my heart and to me it mirrors my Grandparents relationship. Ephesians 4:2-'Be completely humble and gentle, be patient, bearing with one another in love." Im so blessed to have witnessed something so beautiful. I hope that everyone can have love like that in their life.
I miss you Grandma and I love you.
Love Eli, your wolf. I know that dimple is on your face as you watch us. Gone, but never forgotten.

My Dearest Mommy
Our mother never had a mom to teach her all those things that mothers assist their daughters with. Mom was a natural born Mom that alway's made us and any child she touched feel safe and loved. She had this ability of making all children feel secure and happy. Her infectious laugh and her warm smile radiated the room. When she was angry she let it be known with her beautiful poutie mouth. She never kept her anger in her heart and always gave me a snuggle and a giggle that would light up my heart! Mom was love and I aspire to show my boys the love that my Mom showed me. I know she's in heaven with our Lord Jesus but I will miss you Mom for the rest of my life. Thankyou Mommy for showing us how to love unconditionally. I will always remember our love. Xoxo Your loviing daughter in Christ Julie

Dear Mom,
I feel Blessed to have had you in my life. I look back and remember all we've been through.
You taught me so much.
You were never judgmental about anything, and always supported me.
My best memories are of us laughing together. Your whole body would shake with laughter.
I will always remember those happy times with You.
You will always be in my heart.
With Great Fondness and Love,
Marjorie

A heartfelt thanks to everyone who has posted such lovely tributes to our beloved mom. It has been a difficult eleven days since our family lost her - a mother, a loving wife, a grandmother and a friend. As we reflect on the wonderful memories she left us each with, we feel blessed. We will remember how she lived life and made the best of some life experiences that were at times unbearable. In spite of this, she went onto create a family environment that was in keeping with her spiritual beliefs and values. We enjoyed a house full of laughter and love, it will be hard to imagine a life without Mom but she would want us to keep our memories in our hearts and carry on. Thank you for the sacrifices you made for us - Missed but never forgotten!

Even though we never met Dorothy, and have only met a few of her family it is obvious through knowing some of her children and reading through the tributes here that she has invested wisely into the lives of her family and will be sorely missed. Your family is all in our prayers. What a blessing to have the many good times and such a wonderful giving woman as part of your family. May you all be upheld by Our Heavenly Father and comforted each and everyday. Praying for strength and comfort. Blessings from Wayne, Karen, and Kalli

Tribute to My Mother
When we used to talk about your childhood, I used to wonder how one person could possibly endure so much pain and still be so caring, empathetic and loving. My heart would break each time I heard about your experiences in the residential system. Yet, even after all of that, you managed to still love us unconditionally, hurt when we hurt, cry when we cried, laugh when we laughed and never past judgement. You were always there to listen when times were tough, or to lift me up when I needed a helping hand. I will always remember your smile, laugh, touch and presence. You were a beautiful woman inside and out and you touched my heart like only a mother could. I will miss you dearly Mom.
Love You Always,
Mona

Nathan's Letter to Grandma
My grandma was the most caring woman anyone would ever meet, always willing to lend a helping hand to the people that needed it. I've met a lot of people in my life, but not many have made as big of a dent as she has. Every memory I have of her she has a smile on her face. She always knew what to say to cheer me up or calm me down when I was younger. Not many people knew her like I did. I still remember the time when I accidentally swallowed a hard candy and got it stuck in my throat: she stayed with me the whole time to calm me down till it melted.
Or all the times I'd ride my bike over with my brother and she'd always be there with a smile on her face waiting for us. I won't cry, and I won't grieve because I know Grandma wouldn't want me to. She would want me to keep that smile on my face that she always loved to see so much. I loved her dearly. And there will always be that spot in my heart where I kept my love for her. It will never fade. and never die. Because unlike all life that eventually ends, love remains eternal and everlasting. Just like the love for my Grandma and all my family.
Luv you Grandma,
Nathan

A letter to grandma-
When I stop and think about what was special about my Grandma, it was everything. From the way she loved and cared for her family, to the way she walked and talked. When she told me stories about when she was young, to how she used to worry about her family getting hurt was special to me. I never knew how someone could go through so much pain, and suffering, yet be so strong, so loving. When I thought about the definition of a “strong woman” my grandma flashed in my mind, and it always will. She was a woman who was there for everyone, she knew what to say, and when not to say anything at all. No matter how much she was going through, she found time for each and every person who needed a hand.
When she was here, there wasn't a day I didn't think about my grandma: and it will never change. I will remember my grandma as the strong, caring, lovable woman she was. She was special, and no one could ever replace her in my heart, and even if i can't see her: I know she will always be here for me, in my heart.
I love you grandma. Forever and always.

The Dorothy Rose
Through the rain and the wind she may bend
But you will never see her fall
The fiercest storms will try to break her
She is firm and will forever stand tall
Precious like a gem made by the angels
Her genuine beauty purer than the rest
Her delicate skin so soft, a smile full of life
His gift to us, we are forever blessed
Everything about her, such splendor and grace
Her charm will not wilt, her heart of gold
She shows strength and courage in the midst of fear
She warms us all, even in the bitterest of cold
Heaven is aglow with sunshine's warmest light
And inside the gate a garden grows
With open arms He is there to welcome her
He calls her the Dorothy Rose
