Dorothy SHIELDS Obituary

Our dear Dorothy Annette (Anne) Shields (Whittome) left us, after a wonderful, long life.
She was the eldest child born to a pioneer Duncan family, sadly predeceased by sister Barbara and brother Jim. Anne and sister Barb were a fun-loving pair of beauties who were a popular part of the social scene in their teens and early 20's. They came of age at the time of WW2 and with the prevalence of TB from returning soldiers, Anne contracted the disease and was treated at Tranquille Sanatorium in Kamloops which served as the centre for recovering TB patients at the time.
She regained her health there, and found her loving husband Leo whom she married in 1950.
They built a then state-of-the-art home in Gordon Head which gave them a wonderful place to entertain their many friends and family. The beautiful home was featured in the June 1961 issue of Western Homes and Living Magazine.
Anne and Leo loved to travel and saw many parts of the world before Leo sadly passed in 2002.
Anne was an avid golfer at Royal Colwood where she was proud to win a trophy for Ladies Net Score when she was 44, and again when she was 84!
She is survived by her stepson Pat Shields and step grandchildren Denise, Michael and Doug and her Whittome niece and nephews, Rob (Linda), John (Eva), Jim and Janet (Craig) and sister-in-law Dorothy Whittome. She was cared for by Carol and her team of wonderful caretakers. The family thanks them for their devotion to Anne's care later in her life. She is laid to rest in the family plot at St. Peter's Church Quamichan.
