Douglas Hobbs Obituary

November 3, 1945 - November 11, 2012

Doug passed away peacefully at home and surrounded by love after years of resilience in the face of many health challenges. Loved deeply by soulmate, Maureen, amazing father to Colin and Heather, and father-in-law to

Jason. Doug is also survived by his brother Keith and family (Margaret, Craig, Karissa, Scott); brother Rick and family (Aleta, Camille, Quinn); sister-in-law Gina and family (Marian, Jennifer, Daniel, Braeden, Ryan, Leah, Ava); brother-in-law Rob and sister-in-law Judy and family (Carla, Jamie, Kelly), and a wonderful network of extended family and friends. Doug was an incredible husband and father, a devoted fundraiser and community health

advocate, and a joyful friend to many. His

immense sense of humour was matched only by his wonderful laugh. Doug was an eternal optimist with a resilient spirit and a genuine love of life. He enjoyed every game of golf he played, regardless of the score, which serves as an accurate metaphor for how he lived each day. Donations to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, BC Branch, (#200 - 4940 Canada Way, Burnaby, BC, V5G 4K6, 1.800.567.8112) and/or Diabetes Association in lieu of flowers are appreciated. Very sorry to hear of Doug's passing. I first met Doug in Junior High School and though we never associated, outside of school, I enjoyed his smile, wit and charm. My condolences go out to the family and all those who were close to him.

Dear family and friends of our dear friend and fellow Classmate Doug Hobbs; We of the Burnaby South Class of 1965 remember Doug Hobbs so very well and with great affection! Always a kind word and generous to others and a lot of fun!!!! As former Classmates of Doug we want to express our sincerely condolences at Doug's passing.
Personally I have vivid memories of Doug as I attended classes as well as Hootenanny and Young Life Club with Doug. May I say also as a career pastor that I have put you in my prayers that the Lord will continue to comfort and shepherd you these days in Christ.
Warm regards and best wishes, Ken Walker

I just read about the passing of Doug. The last time I saw him was at his father's funeral. We were friends growing up in Kitimat and I will always remember his remarkable spirit and the courage with which he faced diabetes. I recall fondly the kindness of his family and the couple of weeks I spent with them in Burnaby in the summer of 1962. My sympathy to his family.
