Douglas Jardine Obituary

JARDINE, Douglas Haig August 31, 1917 December 1, 2006 Our beloved Uncle Doug passed away peacefully in the comforting surroundings of his family and Victoria Hospice. He is survived by his niece Geraldine Ben-Oliel, nephew Ernest Maxwell (Wilma) and grand-nephews Douglas, Jamie and Stephen Ben-Oliel. He was predeceased by his sister Jessie Helen (1987) and his brother-in-law Ernest Maxwell (1991). Doug was born in Montrose, Scotland and emigrated to Canada with his family in 1919. His working career began in Calgary as a postman. He served overseas with the Royal Canadian Navy from 1942 to 1945. He then went on to enjoy a teaching career, in Edmonton, at Ross Sheppard, Westmount School and McNally Composite. In 1982, Doug retired to Vancouver and continued to travel extensively. On his returns, he enjoyed sharing his tales and experiences with his family and friends. Other fond pastimes were walking, reading and composing poetry. We especially want to thank the doctors and nursing staff of RPI and Victoria Hospice at the Royal Jubilee Hospital for their kindness and loving care in his last days. A private celebration of his life will be held in the new year. As an expression of sympathy, a donation in Doug's memory may be made to the Canadian Liver Foundation, BC/Yukon Region, #109-828 West 8th Avenue, Vancouver, BC, V5Z 1E2. 321864

I am a nursing student who had the opportunity to help care for Doug while he was on RP1. What a lovely soul! I enjoyed his kindness and sense of humour and feel so fortunate to have met him.

I too knew Mr. Jardine from the SFU Vancouver Campus, when he'd come by Belzberg Library. I really enjoyed chatting with him. He shall be missed.

Mr. Jardine was a regular visitor at the Belzberg Library at the Simon Fraser University Vancouver Campus. Before I retired, I saw him every Saturday morning and we had a little chat. He was a lovely man. I am so sorry to hear of his passing.

I had Mr. Jardine for a math teacher at Ross Sheppard High School in the early 1960's. He was a wonderful teacher who influenced me to pursue a career as an educator. Today I am a college president thanks in part to the quest for learning instilled by Mr. Jardine.

He lived a long and full life. I hope the wonderful memories and knowing he positively influenced the lives of many students give you much to smile about.

Sincerely,
Ron Woodward

I had the pleasure of teaching with Doug at Ross Sheppard Comp. in Edmonton in the 60s. Doug had such a great, cynical sense of humour and was a well liked teacher!

Mr. Jardine was my math teacher for Grade 10 and 11 at McNally CHS in 1973 and 1974. He was a sweet man - very patient with his students, and a wonderful teacher. I'm so sorry for your loss.
