Douglas Lee Obituary

LEE, Douglas Heath Taylor
June 6, 1953 - February 15, 2024
With loving memories and heavy hearts, we announce Doug's passing on February 15, 2024, following complications of a stroke and heart infection. True to form, Doug fought valiantly until the end and died peacefully. Doug leaves to mourn his wife, Jane, beloved daughter Alexandra, loyal dog Tuxedo, sister Mary, cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as many wonderful friends and colleagues.
He lived a rich and full life and was looking forward to celebrating 30 years of marriage in June and joining Alexandra this summer in Ireland shortly thereafter. Doug had a wide breadth of interests and knowledge and was interested in global events and enjoyed spirited political discussions. He fought for the underdog and his kindness and generosity were well known to those closest to him. He possessed a wicked sense of humour and was fiercely loyal to those he loved and respected.
His true passions were his family, sailing and architecture. He graduated UBC Architecture in 1977. He loved his profession and all the creativity and challenges it provided. Over his long career, he met wonderful and talented colleagues, some of whom became dear and cherished friends.
Doug was happiest on the water, hosting friends on Helios, Alien, his dream boat Helios V, and competing fiercely on the racecourse. We wish him fair winds and smooth sailing.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Royal Victoria Yacht Club, 3475 Ripon Road on Friday, March 1st at 1 pm.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Family Services of Greater Victoria, a local non-profit very dear to Doug's heart.

Jane,
By chance I thought of you two tonight. And was surprised to see this.
I´d often thought about my time on alien as a university student back in the mid 90´s. You and Doug were gracious enough to let me be ballast. The last time I saw Doug was here in Calgary in early 2000. So while it´s been a very long time. I wish you all the best. Just wanted to reach out and say hello and that I´m am very sorry for your loss.

All the best.

I met Doug 55 years when we were hanging around boats at the yacht club. In the late 70's we were fierce competitors in the one design Thunderbird Fleet. More recently he was passionate about saving the fountain in Cenntenial Square. My condolences to his family.
