Edwin MACGREGOR Obituary
MACGREGOR Sir Edwin Robert. Writing an obituary for someone you love is possibly the hardest thing to do. There are so many wonderful facets to my husband it is hard to know where to begin so I'll give you the highlights. Sir Edwin Robert Macgregor was born in Smithers, on December 4, 1931. He died of a heart attack in the early morning hours of March 29, 2003. During his 71 years Ed has worked in the private sector and the public sector, retiring in 1991 from the B.C. Provincial Government as Deputy Ministry of Lands and Parks. Ed lived in Sooke for the past 28 years. When the last incorporation study started we went to every meeting and Ed became Chair of that committee. After incorporation, Ed became the first Mayor of Sooke and that also became Ed's proudest day. Ed loved Sooke he saw such potential for Sooke. Ed says, 'People seem to look at Sooke as Dog Patch and together we can change that'. Every day Ed worked toward that goal. His visionsfor Sooke were really wonderful and he couldn't see how they could not possibly be attained because he had the best of the best council and the best staff. Ed really did give the last four years of his life to Sooke and we were so lucky to have him as our leader. Ed and I were married for 20 years, 9 months and 2 days. We were soul mates, teammates, and playmates. We loved. Others that share in my grief at this time include; his lovely daughter Valerie Grant (Bert Tesolin) of Victoria and his granddaughter Sarah (Eric) who gave him a wonderful great-granddaughter Emily Pearl; his grandson Luke, who he was so proud of; son Ian (Cheryl), of Vancouver; daughter Jessie in Lillooet. Ed mourned the loss of his son Robbie who died in 1976 from a bear attack. Ed loved and will be missed by his step-daughter Kelly (Greg) Rhone and their six children, who he cherished, Felicity, Eva, Mary, Thomas, Heather, and Grace Helen; stepdaughter Tammy Herriott and sweet Emma. He will leave a big void in his family that he loved so much. Brother Dr. Art (Brenda) Macgregor; sisters Pat Macgregor, Nancy-Lane Macgregor and sister Peggy (Cyril) White, of Halifax, NS. His extended family of sisters and brothers-in-law, Janet and Ian Maxwell, Rose & Paul Ennis, Sharron and Richard Bedrich, Denis and Susan Madsen, Les and Diane Madsen and Goldie and Paul and all their families. A memorial services willbe held on April 5, at 2:00 p.m. at the Edward Milne Community School in Sooke. Good-bye my darling heart, know you're missed. Linda Macgregor
