Eileen Curteis Obituary

CURTEIS, Sister Eileen Elizabeth, SSA (Sister Mary Eileen Rose)
Sister Eileen Curteis was born July 20th, 1942, and died peacefully in Vancouver General Hospital on October 25, 2025. Pre-deceased by her beloved parents, Tom and Lil Curteis, and her brother Chuck, she will be remembered by her sister-in-law, Wendy and her beloved nephews, Carson and Jason (Melanie).
Sister Eileen professed her vows as a Sister of St. Ann in 1963 and will be remembered by the many students she taught during twenty-seven wonderful years as a teacher and principal in Victoria and Kamloops. As a teacher and practitioner of Reiki for over thirty years, people came to know and love her as someone who promoted God's healing in their midst and she in turn loved them for doing the same. Eileen was also a valued member and group facilitator at St. Joseph's Friary in Victoria. Eileen was a significant poet, artist, and published author. Her gifts touched the lives of countless people.
The Sisters of St. Ann wish to extend a special Thank You to all the medical people involved in her care.
Eileen will be missed by her family, community of sisters and the great many people who were part of her life. The meaning of Eileen's name is "Person of Light" and that is what she aspired to be in her special calling as a Sister of Saint Ann.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, November 7, 2025, at 10:30 am at Holy Cross Church, 4049 Gordon Head Road, Victoria BC. Interment to follow at Hatley Memorial Gardens.

Yesterday

I met Eileen through a common friend, in a dark period of my life. She brought me hope, light and compassion. Her strong belief in the message of Christ was put into actions and kind words. She worked in the Light, with the Light and will be, I am sure, reunited with the Light.

Being raised in an Irish Catholic family in Ontario, I was very familiar with the strong and holy faith of my Aunt Marie. Many happy memories are with our priest uncle and family laughing and sharing meals. I lost my faith as i grew older, then I met Sister Eileen and learned Reike with her. I felt so at home. She was a blessing for me and brought me back to my faith. Learning Reiki as God´s healing was very good direction for me. I think her family truly had the luck of the Irish to have such a wonderful daughter, sister, sister in law and aunt. May she rest in peace.
Sincerely, Maureen O´Connell

Sister Eileen taught me in Grade 1 at St. Patrick's Elementary in Victoria. She was always a candle of happiness to me and someone who made an impact on me whenever I met her in my adult life. To me she will always be 6' tall and an inspiration for patience.

To my Dear Friend,
We met at Bethlehem Centre. Doing a dance of Qi Gong by the lake. We talked and laughed and continued on for years laughing, sharing, chatting it up until just recently.

I will always be grateful for Sister Eileen's support from afar while I was completing my PhD in the UK. Although I did not know her well, I often heard about her remarkable work from her collaborator, Marnie Bradfield (my mother). My heart goes out to all those feeling the loss of this exceptional person.

Sister Eileen was my 1st grade teacher and the one I think of most. Her teaching style was completely differently than any other teacher I ever had and I have very fond memories of being in her classroom.

Sister Eileen was a true mentor, spiritual mother and friend to me. I feel so honoured to have been touched by the gift of Reiki Healing and taught to share the gift by this amazing earth angel, who now is an angel everywhere. A beautiful, loving soul who touched the lives of so many.

Many of us St.Patrick's elementary school students remember Sister Eileen fondly. She was such a special person, filled with warmth and kindness, but also had a quiet confidence that was so unique. You were lucky to be in her class :)

I don't remember much from back then but I still remember her laugh and most importantly, the comfort and kindness she brought to her class. She was one of a kind. A legend in Victoria education.

Rest in Peace and thank you. The world needs more Sister Eileens

I feel so blessed to have shared a small Thanksgiving gathering with Sister Eileen just days ago. It was immediately obvious that I was in the presence of a beautiful soul with exceptional gifts -- which she shared selflessly. She made those in her presence feel heard, validated, loved. Sister Eileen emanated joy, hope, love, empathy, compassion...
She was indeed a "Person of Light".

Sister Eileen was my grade one teacher at St.Patrick´s Elementary school. She had the ability to see the best in her students and bring out their inner light. We stayed in touch over the years and every time I connected with her I was always overwhelmed by the love that shone through her. She will always be a guiding light in my life and her messages of love will live on in all the students she taught and people whose lives she changed through her healing practice and her writing. I can hear her now, teaching us the song, "This little light of mine, I´m gonna let it shine." No doubt she is shining her brightest now. What a gift to have had her in our lives.
