Eileen Hicks Obituary


HICKS, Eileen Margaret (nee Gillett) Passed away peacefully at the age of 88 on 26 October, 2006, at the home of her son Bill in Sidney, BC. Eileen was born in Berwick upon Tweed, England in 1918 and immigrated to Canada with her family in 1927. Eileen spent her younger years in Fort Erie and Ottawa, ON. Eileen was predeceased by her husband, Delbert Borden Hicks in 1979 and her four brothers; William, Ernie, Graham, and Stan Gillett. Eileen was survived by her three sons and their spouses; Bill and Doreen Hicks, Rick and Laurie Hicks, Roy and Kimberly Hicks, her 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren and her brother Frank and spouse Dolores. Eileen spent 10 years working for the BC Ferry Corporation as a cashier on the Queen of Esquimalt, retiring in 1980. Her life was full in retirement, singing with several groups on the Saanich Peninsula, playing bridge, bingo and volunteering her time with the Tourist Information kiosk located on the Pat Bay Hwy. just north of Beacon Ave. Eileen attended Bethel Fellowship Baptist Church in Sidney for 39 years, before being called home to her Lord and Savior. Eileen will sit in rest at the Sands Funeral Chapel (1803 Quadra St. in Victoria, BC) for viewing from 9-10am, Wednesday, 1 November, 2006, before being interred at the Royal Oak Burial Park. There will be a memorial service at Bethel Fellowship Baptist Church (2269 Mills Rd, Sidney, BC) at 2pm Wednesday, 1 November, 2006. Flowers have been gratefully declined; donations can be made in Eileen's name to the Canadian Cancer Society. (750 Hillside Avenue, Victoria, BC, V8T 1Z4) 310806

I will always remember Eileen with a big smile working with her on the Queen of Esquimalt [her in the newstand me in the galley. She was always a treat to work with and know as a friend just a realy nice lady Roy and families sorry cant make it on wed. will be thinking of you Brenda [Burgers]Cronk
