Ellen ASHWORTH Obituary

We are so heartbroken. Ellen loved life and lived it with passion. She lit up any room, with her smile and laughter. She was our "home base", where we found comfort and joy and she was so loved.
Ellen was born in Tromso, Norway, and immigrated to Canada, in 1952, residing in Victoria BC, with her parents and sister. She grew up in the Haultain/Cook St area and graduated from Vic High in 1965. Mom shared many stories of her youth, from enjoying dances, sports, drill team, cars and fashion. She was always so stylish, which followed her throughout life.
Ellen was married for 56 years to her loving husband, Russell Ashworth (predeceased July 18, 2024). She had two daughters, Rita Ashworth (Steve), Karen Wade (Gord) and one son, David Ashworth (Laura). Seven grandchildren, Nate Wade (Kianna), Danielle Rogers (Ryan), Rayelle Nguyen (Will), Abbi Rogers, Gracie Rogers, Eddie Ashworth and Andy Ashworth. One great grandson, Lucas Nguyen, born February 18, 2026. She celebrated the announcement of a 2nd great grandson, arriving in August to Dani/Ryan.
Ellen lived an active life right to the end. Over the years, Ellen and Russ owned businesses, travelled the world together, and raised a family they were proud of. Ellen's favourite vacation, without a doubt, would be a road trip heading South with Russ, in the mustang convertible, even better if there were casinos along the way. Her zest for life, matched Russ's, and they had so many great times. She would always mention "How happy her life had been". Their bond was undeniable.
Ellen, over the many years, enjoyed and cherished all the great times she had with friends, vacationing, dinners, coffees, art classes and playing golf (Thursday ladies), and the close friendships kept throughout the years. Time spent with her sister Anne-Lise, cruising, shopping and laughing, filled her heart.
Ellen's top priority was her family. She was always there for us. She created a family who supports each other and loves to spend time together. She was always the number one fan, cheering from the bleachers, at soccer fields, hockey arenas, lacrosse arenas, baseball fields and dance studios. She was the first one there with hugs, when celebrating birthdays, holidays, graduation days, wedding days, greeting her great grandson and when we just needed her. Her grandkids adored her, and her presence will be so missed.
Ellen was artsy and creative, she enjoyed painting, crocheting, knitting, and sewing. We are grateful to own many of the pieces she made, and will cherish them forever.
Ellen was predeceased by her husband, Russell Ashworth, her parents Gerd & Egil Simonsen. She leaves behind her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, her sister Anne-Lise Kaarvik (Asbjorn), nieces, nephews, cousins, sister/brother in-laws and close friends.
Thank you, Mom, for the great life, great example of how to live life, with strong work ethics but always to see the simple part of life and enjoy it. She was simply the best!
Ellen will be deeply missed. Her legacy of unconditional love, strength, support, warmth and laughter, will live on for generations, as she filled our hearts with memories that will last lifetimes.
"Keep dancing mom, and we will see you again someday"
"Our only comfort during this time, is knowing
"Russ & Ellen" are together again"

Such a great person. So generous with her love and caring. Lucky family to have her as long as they did.

So sad to hear of Ellens passing. Our sincere condolences to her family.
I first met Ellen when we were in our late teens. We worked together, hung out together and became good friends. As life goes, we drifted apart. I was delighted 34 years ago to find out that she lived 4 doors from us on Glen Lake.
Geoff and I had many great times with Russ and Ellen on the lake, after they moved and in Palm Springs. The write up on Ellen was beautiful, and so Ellen.
She was loved by many friends for her love of life , vitality and fun to be with. For Russ and Ellen family always came first, and they were so proud of their children and grandchildren. We will miss them both. We to feel comfort in that we believe they are now together again.

The Gilstein family knew the Simonsen family when they first arrived from Norway. I always remember how beautiful the girls and their mother were. Like Ellen was described in this beautifully written write up, her mother also was very stylish. We only knew them in their early days in Victoria. I remember Ellen more than Anne-Lise because I graduated with her. Just before our 55th high school reunion, I had a lovely chat with her. I would have loved to see her again, but it just didn't happen. It was nice having a look into her well lived life. Her love of family and the love and joy they have for one another is Ellen's greatest gift to them. My condolences to her family and to Anne-Lise's family. Thanks for the memories and learning more about this wonderful lady. Wherever a beautiful soul has been, there is a trail of beautiful memories. Freida (Gilstein) Eriksen
