Emrys Evans Obituary

Having recently celebrated his 92nd birthday with family, Emrys passed away on December 25 after a brief illness. He was born in Swansea, S. Wales, and came to Canada in 1957, first to Ottawa, then moving west to Vancouver, and then to Brentwood Bay. He had a long career as an engineer, mostly involving aviation. He worked with the RCAF, the DOT, was a Design Approval Representative, had his own consulting firm, and retired from Viking Air. Emrys had many interests. He was the first president of the Vancouver Welsh Men's Choir, sang with the Arion Choir, was a Rotarian, a Cub leader, played bridge whenever possible, travelled internationally and by road, learned to fly, shared ownership in a boat, lawn bowled, belonged to the Welsh Society, and walked his dog regularly in Centennial Park. Missing him will be his four children, Stuart, Janet, Glyn, and Elaine, nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, his wife, Robyn in Brentwood Bay, and many friends.
In his memory, please support any of the many Rotary projects in your community.

I met Emrys while playing bridge at Goward House. What a lovely man he was...he was gracious, attentive, he had a sweet sense of humour and I so enjoyed talking to him before bridge began. I loved going to his table because he was always welcoming and I knew we would be having a spirited game. He spoke very lovingly of his family and his travels to Mexico with them.
I am so sorry to hear of his death and will be sad not to see his gentle face at the bridge table.
Please accept my sincere condolences on your loss .

I got to know Emrys through Rotary. Emrys was a lovely man - full of joy and laughter, incredibly intelligent, and kind to his core. He was always one of the first to volunteer and always gave 110%. He used to lend me books that he had read and thought I would enjoy - and he was always right. The world was a better place with him in it and while he will be sorely missed, I will always have fond memories of him.

Rest in peace my dear friend. I will miss your great laugh halfway through telling your own jokes and all the little gifts and treats you spoiled me with when I came over for my weekly cup of tea.

Hi to the whole family.
I am one of Emrys' friends from Bridge.
I am sorry for your loss.
He was well loved by everybody.
It wouldn't surprise me in the least
if you told me he died with a smile on his face.

Hello Robyn,
I started working with Em at Viking about 34 years ago when we had about 35 employees. One thing that has stood out for me with Em was that he was always talking with the people on the shop floor getting their input and feedback on his work. He was a great collaborator which, unfortunately, isn't always the case when working with engineers (no offence to any engineers here!). I got to meet some of the family (the grandkids were just starting then), fly with him in the 182 and share many laughs and stories. He will be missed by many.
All the best to you and the family,
Todd and Jo Ann Sjerven

Over the many years we have known Emrys he has always shown his love of people, his family and Wales. His travels have amazed us and right up to the end he was planning one more to trip to Europe. We shall miss him.

Emrys led a life well lived. He was one of my favourite partners. He always had a kind word and a many a memory to share. Playing with him was a pleasure and an enjoyable experience. And he loved a beverage after the game. Emrys learned how to play bridge in Swansea, during the war, while the Germans were bombing the harbour. He played the game the same as he did then. I will miss him, so long Emrys.
