Eric Mcmorran Obituary

McMORRAN, Eric Wallace November 19, 1925 - October 11, 2015 Eric passed peacefully into the presence of his Lord Jesus Christ, at The Lodge at Broadmead. He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 64 years, Helen and son Wallace (Doris), daughter Sharon (Tito), brothers Bruce, Richard (Beverly) and David (Irene), grandchildren Aaron and Benjamin de Castro, Kimberly Burkart (Jason), Deanna Rosenlund (Jordan), Jacqueline McMorran (Tyler Hass), 4 great-grandchildren Gracia, Hudson, Nora, Georgia and many nieces and nephews. Eric was born in Victoria and lived and worked here his whole life. He signed up with the Royal Canadian Navy and was stationed in Halifax during the WWII; returning to the family business. Like his father George, his passions were family, business and community. He was principally known as Mr. Hospitality through the BC Motels and Resorts Association and volunteered with many Hospitality Boards. He is most remembered as host and friend at the family business, particularly in the SeaView Ball Room with its Big Band Dance events, where many started relationships and created fond memories. Eric was a Brother in Saint Andrew's Masonic Lodge AF&AM for over 65 years. His discipline of the values of the Lodge reflected in his caring of family and community through his life. Most important in all things were his reverence for God and worship as a member of Centennial United Church fellowship. Most remembered will be his animated, bright and caring attitude to all. There will be a private, family service and interment. Reception for friends and community is Tuesday, October 20, 2015 from 2:30 - 4:00 at The Beach House, 5109 Cordova Bay Rd. Parking in the lot across the street or on Cordova Bay Rd. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to The Lodge at Broadmead or a charity of your choice. I unfortunately just found out about this wonderful mans passing. I was fortunate to know Mr McMorran when I grew up in Cordova Bay as a young girl and were very good friends with his daughter Sharon. I remember being invited on stage on New Years Eve dances to use the big bells to ring in the new year with Sharon. Going to Hawaii with the family at 17 to celebrate my birthday. When I came back to Cordova Bay from Ontario after a divorce with 2 small children in tow, I was able to rent the cottage beside McMorrans. It was a very happy two years there and Mr McMorran was so kind to my children. He would have Bon fires on the beach during the summer and invite the community for hot dog and mashmallow roasts. He would invite my daughter Krista down and christened her his honourably fire warden. He taught her how to have a safe fire and she felt very valued. I miss him. He made my life so enriched. My heart goes out to his family.

Mr. M. A wonderful mentor. Taught me well and helped me to understand the true value of appreciation. You work hard to truly appreciate all that you earn. He had great patience to come down to the restaurant nightly to lock up, once I'd finished cleaning up the kitchen. A wonderful man who will be missed, no doubt.

My condolences to the McMorran family. Eric was so supportive of my son Justin when he booked his first Feature Film at 7, and sent a very kind letter and gift package. Also all three of my children sang in the Cordova Bay Christmas choir every year in their beautiful dining room and always felt so welcome, you will be missed by all xo

I am so saddened to hear of Eric's passing. He and I shared many good chats when he visited us at JSGW & M. I see he was the same age as my dad, was in the navy at the same place and time as my dad and my father was also a mason. No wonder I thought so much of him. I will think of him often with fond memories. My condolences to all the family.
