Etheridge Minaker Obituary

MINAKER, Etheridge Craig
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved Etheridge Craig Minaker on September 23rd, 2025 after a short struggle with cancer. Until the end, he was positive, peaceful and curious about what he might find on the other side.

Craig is survived by his wife Jan, daughters Vanessa, Elizabeth and Emily, sister Donale, grandson Hudson, nieces and nephews, and predeceased by his sister Sheridon.

Craig attended Oak Bay High, University School, and the University of Victoria. Growing up near the beaches of Oak Bay and a marina, offered him another kind of education, the world of boats and oceans that would become a central theme in his life.

After a few careers in Alberta and B.C. Craig set off to Vancouver and built his successful Marine Insurance Business. He was energetic and a hard worker. Here he learned and studied the technical details of boat construction, mechanics and restoration. Being a natural and gifted conversationalist he loved sharing his knowledge with others. This brought him great personal satisfaction . He was well known and well liked throughout the luxury craft community.

During this time Craig's adventuresome spirit embraced Motor Coaches. He eventually bought a condo in Phoenix as a base for motorcoach travel throughout the U.S. and Mexico during the colder Canadian winters.

Craig's boating life took him from Desolation Sound in the north to Mexico in the south. Recently, he and Jan spent time living aboard in Mexico. They created amazing memories, never ending stories, and some new forever friends.

A kind and generous man, he wanted the best for his family and friends. He was always there to patiently listen, and offered his help and support in any way he could. He was a loyal, caring, optimistic and humble friend. His joyful spirit, charismatic personality and sense of humour could light up a room, and a captivating story or a bit of wisdom to share was always at the ready.

Craig's strong and enduring connection to the sea was his North Star, where he felt at home and found meaning and solace. When he died a month short of turning eighty, he was still researching boats for sale, and planning the next voyage.

We love you sweet Craig
Rest gently in the lullabies of the sea.

A life celebration for family and friends will be announced at a later date.
