Ferdinand Kallstrom Obituary

KALLSTROM, Ferdinand (Ferd) Delano
April 20, 1939 - December 23, 2024
Ferd passed away peacefully with his wife and son by his side. Our "cat with nine lives" has taken his next journey, leaving family and friends to mourn his loss.
Ferd is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Marjorie (Marj). Ferdie was blessed with five daughters - Nicole, Simone, Justine (d. 2020), Katrina (d. 1977), Jeneanne (T.C.); one son, Ture; eight grandchildren - Rafiele, Troy (Jenna), Sophia (Kevin), Desiree, Taliesyn, Bronwyn, Ajauni, and Luka; great-grandchildren - Bjorn, Zara, and Lily; and siblings Danny (d. 2023), Rick (Maren), Paulette (John), and Kristen (Lou), as well as numerous family and close friends, especially neighbours Tiina, Ken, Joanne, and Pete.
Ferd dedicated years to working in forestry and accounting, both on Vancouver Island and Haida Gwaii. Known for his sharp, dry sense of humour, Ferd loved fishing, working in his vegetable gardens, and building his family home in Cobble Hill. An adventurous learner, he took great delight in listening to many genres of music, reading, and taking courses such as geology. Ferd enjoyed travelling, especially visiting family in Finland and attending Helsinki's Herring Festival, and trips to Mexico with in-laws Kathy and Steve. Ferd was involved with Search and Rescue and played cards with his poker buddies. His grandchildren were a great joy to him.
Thank you to his endocrinologist, Dr. Miller, general practitioners Dr. Roy Gilbert and Dr S. MacGregor, and to the care teams at Oyster Harbour in Ladysmith and Cerwydden in Duncan. We miss Ferd dearly.
