Frances Botten Obituary

Ruth passed away unexpectedly but peacefully at home December 1, 2014. Born in Vancouver, BC December 29, 1924, she moved to Victoria in 1945 after marrying Bert, and was a long-time volunteer at Tillicum Lodge and Aberdeen Hospital. Predeceased by parents Eva and Walter Kerry and husband Herbert (1998), she will be greatly missed by daughter Kathryn (Herb), grand-daughter Amalie and cousins. No service by request. In lieu of flowers, donations to Greater Victoria Eldercare Foundation or Silver Threads would be appreciated.

I am sorry to hear of Ruth's passing. I have good memories of spending time with Ruth and Bert at my grandparents' (Iris and Bob Hansford) house when I was a child.

Ruth was a dear next door neighbor to my parents and a friend for over three decades! We started a tradition a few years ago for a telephone chat every Saturday at 8 a.m.--sipping our coffee as we caught up on the week's events. My visits back home included an 8 a.m. daily coffee date at her place and we'd look out at her lovely garden, enjoying our coffee and a sweet treat while keeping an eye out for squirrels, various birds and deer. She is greatly missed.

My condolences to the family. I am sure Ruth spent many nights dancing to the music of The Hometowners alongside founding members Fred Usher, Bob McGill, her brother-inlaw, Bill Botten, and my dad, Geoff Venables. Hope is grief's best music.

My sympathy to Kathryn and family. I always enjoyed Ruth's visits to Silver Threads, and invariably she brought me a teddy bear (or 2) when she came. We shared a love for the delightful little bears and when I look at my bears I will think of Ruth and the special lady she was.

So sorry to hear about Ruth passing. We shared many stories together over the years of me doing her hair. Ruth was a great lady and had a special love for her daughter Kathryn and granddaughter Amalie they were the light of her life. My prayers thoughts and love are with Ruth`s family at this sad time.
