Frances Maud Drape EDWARDS

Frances Maud Drape Edwards mother & friend to Rob (Jane, Victoria) and Christy (Ulrich, Connecticut) passed peacefully at home in Victoria, on March 2nd, 2023. Born in Vancouver, Mum attended York House School & UBC prior to joining the Canadian Wrens to become a decoder during WW 2 in Ottawa & Esquimalt.
On her return to Vancouver, she met & married her man in a kilt, John Edwards. While raising her family she conquered sewing on a treadle machine while homesteading on Gambier Island, creative cooking, the art of entertaining, with many hours of volunteer work at such places as the Community Chest, Junior League, John Howard Society, to name a few.
A successful career in real estate followed as Mum sold many of the 'new' builds in the West End, homes in the city & formed lasting new friendships.
Time to retire, Fran headed to Victoria to be near Rob & his family. An avid Bridge player Mum developed a wide circle of friends, playing at the Victoria Golf Club & on joining Probus, she and her partner became the one's to beat. 2910 Cook St. became her special home, the Castle & her wonderful neighbours. Mum's love of cruising took her to Alaska, Panama many times. The ship from London to Cape Town to see Christy & her family was a memorable experience. South African adventures began when she stepped off the ship, exploring the country, game parks and even a few bridge games! We would like to thank Kathy, Mum's intrepid shopper & helper, Nancy, for taking Mum for beach drives & picnic lunches, and to Jenna, caregiver does not begin to explain all that Jenna did to enrich Mum's last year, & to Care & Co., for their continued love & support. All made it possible to grant Mum's wish to stay in her home.
We celebrated Mum's 100th birthday on October 31st with her grand/great grandchildren and multi-generational friends. We are grateful for these happy memories of our time together.
