Frances Vidal Obituary

VIDAL, Frances Bernice (nee Moulton) 1920 - 2018 Frances passed away on April 25, 2018 at the age of 97 with her daughter at her side. She was predeceased by her husband, Ronald, in 1987 and her brother, Bill and wife Betty Moulton. Frances grew up on Cameron Taggert Road at Cobble Hill with her best friend Jean Taggert. She experienced a lot of tragedy in her life. At the age of 9 her mother died suddenly followed by the death of her grandmother one week later from a broken heart. Shortly afterwards, her grandfather fell off the farmhouse roof and died while being transported by horse and buggy to Duncan for medical attention. Unfortunately, her father was an alcoholic. Frances became the woman of the house at this early age, caring for her little brother Bill. It was no wonder that Frances became such a beautiful, strong, and hardworking woman. Always kind-hearted and thoughtful, her life was full of friendships of all ages throughout her life. This kept her youthful and ageless right until the end of her life! School life began at Sylvania School in Cobble Hill often without food to eat in her lunch box. After attending Cobble Hill High School, Frances became a nurse at Queen Alexander Hospital for Sick Children at Mill Bay. Her career continued in Victoria where she worked for the Nuns of Queenswood for many years. Frances met the love of her life, Ronald, at the Shawnigan Lake Hall at one of the Friday night dances and they married very soon afterwards. Unfortunately, her dreams of having a family of her own were not possible and so Frances and Ronald adopted two daughters, Wendy and Sheilah. Frances nurtured and treasured her family and often she did without, so her daughters could have extras. Later in life, Frances became actively involved at the Monterey Center and with the Oak Bay Garden Club for over 30 years. She became a life long member of the Studebaker Car Club on Vancouver Island. Many thanks to France's two nieces Kim Moulton (Trevor, Cole, Keanan and Jenna) and Stephanie Moulton (Glenn). You were such a special part of Mom's life. Additional thanks to Michelle and Nicki Graas for always remembering Mom and most recently your visit Nicki. Thanks to David Graas for helping care for Frances in the later months of her life. Sheilah and I love you Mum and appreciate all that you have done for us and we will we will hold you in our hearts for the rest of our lives. Donations may be made to The David Foster Foundation or The Queen Alexander Foundation. Open Visitation is on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 pm, at Sands Funeral Chapel, 1803 Quadra Street, Victoria. Private Burial at St. John's Anglican Church, Cobble Hill Thursday, May 3, 2018 followed by a luncheon by invitation. Flowers are gratefully declined. Dear Wendy and Sheliah
Iam so sorry to hear about the loss of your mom. She was an amazing lady. I have many childhood memories playing at your house. Especially the little play house in the back yard.
I recently loss our mom last fall. They are probably together again having tea.

Dear Wendy and Sheilah,
Please accept my deep sympathy in the loss of your mother. Your parents were friends of my late parents, John and Grace Climenhaga. Your Dad and mine both worked in the Physics Department at UVic. I met your mother several times, and I remember her as a very dignified and gracious lady.
Warm regards,
Joan (Climenhaga) Millar

We were so sorry to hear of Frances passing. She and my mom, EilaWilson, were good friends. They met with other wonderful ladies, who have now passed, at the A&W regulary on most mornings. Then they would go for the birthday lunch once a year to celebrate all theirs birthdays.
We got to know Frances through our moms, and although the quiet person she was, we always got a chuckle from her.
Months ago, we ran into her with one of her wonderful daughters and got a big hug.
We will miss you Frances.
