Frederick Garside Obituary

Born July 28, 1926 passed away peacefully on December 27, 2015 at the Dwelling Place in Nanaimo. Fred was born in Gloucestershire, England and moved to Canada at age two. He worked for the BC Telephone Company as a storesman and installer from 1949 until his retirement in 1982. Fred will always be remembered as an avid outdoorsman, whose passion for hiking, hunting and fishing was shared with his beloved wife of 59 years Alicia "Babs" Garside.

Fred will be remembered by his family and friends for his loving-kindness, soft-spoken nature, and dedication to making the family home into a special place. He loved to make things by hand (from the stone fireplace to Alicia's favourite bird-feeder) and everything was created with care and attention to detail. His love of nature lives on through his children and theirs and this will be his lasting legacy. He was an inspiration to all of us.

Fred was predeceased by his brother George Garside and sisters Irene Russell and Dorothy Wilkinson and is survived by his loving wife Alicia, brother Phil Garside (Donna), son Brian Garside (Barbara) and daughters Donna Holmes (Gary Corraini) and Debra Garside. He leaves behind grandchildren Aaron, Kevin and Chelsea, as well as great grandchildren Fallon, Kenna, Alexis, Alicia and Abigail.

A celebration of life may be announced in the springtime. Please honour his life by honouring nature & conservation.
