I went to Oak Bay High with Fred. Reading the guest book entries I can see he was loved and valued by his family and many friends. Even as a teenager his consideration for others and laughter were always near the surface. My deepest sympathy to his family.

22 years ago Fred trained me in the Production office in Tahsis. For just one year I had the great pleasure of getting to know Fred and his young family. Fred made an impression on me in that year so long ago....it is a tribute to what a genuine person Fred was. My heart goes out to Lorraine and family.

Fred – our 10+ years working together at Westar, Pacific and Mayo were some of the best of times. I will never forget your infectious enthusiasm and attention to detail. I learned a lot from you over the years and had a ton of fun doing it.
Lorraine – Karen & I still remember our last “Group of 8” supper at your place with Thompsons, Hofers you and us just before we set sail for Alberta; we all had so much fun.
We're devastated to hear about the tragic events last week; Freddy was a very good man!

I didn't know Fred well. I did meet him a couple of times but most of my dealings with him were over the phone during my six years with WFP. I always appreciated his sense of humour and good nature. While I no longer work at Western, the sense of family still remains and I truly do feel like a member of my extended family has passed away. My heartfelt wishes to out to the McEachern family now and into the future.

When I was a young teenager, one of my best friends was Gail McEachern. We loved a new band called The Beatles. I spent a lot of time hanging out at Gail's house, even rode on her Dad's Flower Shop float in the parade. I remember when her little brother Fred came along too. I am so sorry for your family's tragic loss. My thoughts are with you.

I remember Fred in Junior and Senior High as a guy who loved to laugh and it spread to others. You always had time to share with others whoever they were, and I appreciated that. Rest peacefully, and we shall see you when we all catch up.

Fred was one of those shining stars that kept me laughing and feeling loved while attending Oak Bay. He was a beautiful and gentle soul. I will be forever grateful that I knew him. He will always hold a special place in my heart as a great human being and it was an honour to know him. With love and my sincerest sympathy to his wife, children, family and friends. He was our earth angel and now heavenly angel. He touched many with his wings while he was here. Bless you Fred. We will miss you.

My fondest memories with Fred were in the 80's when we would spend a lot of time at Phil's Auto on Chatham. Life seemed so much simpler then. We miss you Fred!

I was so sad to hear of the sudden and tragic passing of Fred last week. Although I have not seen him since our 20 year High School reunion, I remember him fondly as a great guy with a great sense of humour and always with a warm smile. I remember hanging out with him and his best friend Trevor and my best friend Margaret so many years ago in high school - memories of those days have been flooding back to me his past week. My deepest sympathy goes out to his wife, his children, his sister, Trevor and the rest of his family and friends.

Fred was rarely without a smile;ocassionally he has a puzzled look, which was quite funny to see. When you talked to Fred, you could tell that he was interested and was trully listening to you. He was very helpful, and never failed, when visiting, to ask my mom (Edith) if anything needed to be done that he could help with. As well as playing hockey, he was an excellent coach. His teams were well drilled but he never forgot the fun element of the game. He made sure to find an out of town tournament for his teams so his house players could experience some travel and play different teams. While visiting I saw a practice, puck deep in an opposition corner, use speed to get to the puck and make a quick 45 degree pass to the high slot, where a team mate rushes in for a clear scoring chance---the next day, in a game situation, the elements of this drill came into play and the result was a goal. On two occasions Fred was selected as Coach of the Year by the Nanaimo Minor Hockey Assocation. Fred told me that there were no secrets to such drills if one would study the appropriate videos on the Hockey Canada website. The last time my girlfriend Cynthia saw Fred, was in retrospect a Canadian Classic. Fred and Lorraine were at the Juan de Fuca Arena to watch Tristan's last minor hockey game with his Nanaimo Juvenile team. After the game, the five of us went to the nearby Tim Hortons. My girlfriend Cynthia, her sisters Sheila, Marlene,& Che and I send our most heartfelt condolences to my sister Lorraine, my niece Paige and my nephew Tristan.
