Garry was born in Saskatchewan, the oldest of 5 boys, and raised in the Sturgis/Preeceville area. He spent most of his adult life working in the hospital industry, starting with psychiatric nurses training at the Provincial Mental Hospital in Weyburn, Sask. After Weyburn, he moved to Regina where he worked at the Grey Nun's Hospital then to St. Paul's Hospital in Vancouver and then the next 30 years in the Victoria Hospital system.
Garry enjoyed the outdoors, cycling, hiking, kayaking, Dragon Boating. He was a spiritual seeker and had read widely about different religions and spiritual beliefs. For many years he was an active member at Grace Lutheran Church but later began practicing Zen Buddhism. Above all, Garry's greatest joy was his family. He was an amazing father to his daughter and adored his granddaughters. After his retirement he devoted much time helping with their care.
Garry also enjoyed large family and friends dinners where he would tell great stories and have everyone laughing and feeling joyful.
