Gary ANDERSON Obituary

Gary Louis Anderson, 83, of Sidney, passed away peacefully at Victoria Hospice on February 21, 2026.

Born and raised in Kitchener ON, Gary was the only child of Sheldon and Ann Anderson. He pursued his education with dedication, earning a degree in Civil Engineering from McMaster University in 1965. He later completed his MBA at University of Western Ontario (1967-1969), laying the foundation for a lifelong career in business.

In 1970, Gary and his family moved to St. John's, NL where they lived for over 20 years and created many cherished memories. During that time, he served as president of an office furniture and stationery company, applying his strong leadership and entrepreneurial spirit.

After relocating to Victoria, British Columbia, Gary transitioned into real estate, working with DFH Real Estate and then RE/MAX until his retirement. He had a true passion for business and investing, always enjoying thoughtful discussions about markets and opportunities.

Gary loved jazz music and enjoyed travelling to jazz festivals. He and his wife, Margaret, shared a deep love of travel, exploring the world together. At home, he found joy in gardening, especially tending to his beloved roses.

He will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his wife, Margaret; his son, Michael (Caren); his daughter, Jody (Greg); and his extended family and many friends who will treasure memories of his keen sense of humour and pearls of wisdom.

Our family would like to thank Dr. Sarah Chritchley, BC Cancer, Victoria Hospice and the other members of the health care team for their care. By request, no service will be held. We would appreciate anyone wishing to honour Gary's memory with a donation, to please direct it to the Mount Newton Centre Society (please specify the Loan Cupboard) or to Victoria Hospice.

Gary has been both a close friend and business associate of mine for over 30 years. When I began my real esate career with DFH Real Estate, Gary and I shared an office together. After 7 years we both made the move to Re/Max Camosun where we continued to share an office and a close friendship. Although we worked separately we looked after each others business while on vacation and as needed. My clients grew to understand and appreciate the man I always knew - a quiet spoken man with intelligence, integrity, kindness and always a willingness to help. On a personal level I had the utmost respect for Gary, regarded him as a very special and close friend. I will never forget you Gary. My thoughts and prayers are with your family in this very difficult time.
