BISHOP, Gary Wilfred
July 16, 1938 - November 15, 2025
Gary passed away peacefully on November 15, 2025 at the age of eighty-seven in Victoria, BC. Born in Victoria in 1938 to Harry and Clara (Oddy) Bishop.
Baseball was his game as a young man and through this, made many lifelong friends. He loved to share stories of when he and his brother Steve, played together.

Gary married his beloved partner Joan in 1962, embarking on a journey together that spanned over six decades. Together, they raised three children, Gary Jr. (Rachel), Janette, and Terri (Tod), who blessed them with their grandchildren, Hayden (Katie), Isobel, Ari (Marshall), Angus and great grandson Walter. Sadly, the family suffered the loss of their daughter Terri in 2019.
Gary completed his apprenticeship in metal fabrication, establishing a successful business in 1974. He exemplified hard work, honesty, and reliability. A serious fall in 1981 impacted his ability to carry on in his chosen field of work resulting in an early retirement.

Gary and Joan enjoyed a vibrant life in Victoria and later moved between Duncan, Ladysmith, Nanaimo and the Comox Valley. Gary loved to play cards and golf as it was a great way to meet new people, make new friends and enjoy friendly competition.

Reflecting on Gary's life, we remember a man defined by his integrity and his love for family and sports. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who had the pleasure to have known him.

The family would like to acknowledge the compassionate care that Gary received from the entire team of Hope House at Mt. St. Mary's with special thanks to Milan, Julieta and Suiti.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Uplands Golf Club on January 15, 2026 from 2:00 to 4:00.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Jumpstart or Kidsport British Columbia to help youth overcome financial barriers to sports.
