Gary Robbins Obituary

With great sadness we announce Gary's passing. Once Gary got long covid and lung cancer, he struggled with his health, but he never stopped fighting, not even at the end. His loving family was at his side during his final moments.
Gary was a second-generation Victorian, who spent his entire life close to home. Gary was a highly respected master mechanic. After his apprenticeship, he worked at Carey Home, Saunders & Hitchman and Victoria Nissan. In his younger years, he loved going to the horse races, Western Speedway, bowling and fishing. Gary was passionate about his family, his garden, showing rabbits, racing pigeons and his beloved dogs. He loved going to auctions, garage sales and antique stores searching for treasures to bring home to Sherry. He enjoyed beachcombing, making puzzles and playing cards. Gary had a great sense of humour, was a kind man and a cherished friend to many.
Gary volunteered his time and skills to many organizations and was always willing to help anyone who asked. He was a lifetime member of the Saanich Fair, ARBA and VIRBA, a former vice president of the Jaycee's and member of the Capital City Racing Pigeon Club.
Gary was predeceased by his parents Glen and Vera, sister-in-law Gerry and many dear friends. He is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Sherry. New Year's Eve would have marked 57 years since the night they met. This past September, they celebrated 50 years in their home together. Gary will be deeply missed by his children Shannon (Robert), Paul (Colleen), Samantha (Phil) and Sara (Phil), his siblings George, Glen and Kathie, his treasured grandchildren Elias, Chelsea, Brianna, William and Nathan, his daughter-in-law Tara, his many nieces and nephews, his godchildren, and his dear friends Burt and Sharon and Rod and Krista.
A special thanks to Rudy for all the Sunday dinners and to Mindy and Keith for all their love and support and especially the cookies.
No words can truly express the depths of our sadness. You are missed and we love you more.
A service and reception will be held Saturday, January 3rd at 2:30pm at St. Mary the Virgin, 1701 Elgin Rd, Oak Bay. The service will be live streamed for those who cannot attend in person.

We are shocked and sad to hear of Gary´s passing. We´ve known Gary, his wife Sherry and daughter Samantha for so many years and have fond memories of them. Gary was so much fun, kind, helpful and maintained a calm sense of humour. Never saw him anything but pleasant with the occasional shake of his head. Talented, not much he couldn´t do and always helpful. He will be sorely missed by his loved ones, all his clubs and associations - and friends!
