George Allan Obituary

Born in Glasgow, Scotland, George received his medical degree from Glasgow University at age 21. After several years of general practice, he completed a residency in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, receiving his FRCS(C) in 1965. He served in the medical branch of the Canadian Armed Forces in France and Germany, as well as Cold Lake, Alberta and Ottawa and Kingston, Ontario. After his retirement from the armed forces, he practiced obstetrics and gynaecology in Ottawa, associated with the Grace Hospital there. He thoroughly enjoyed practicing medicine. Over the years he helped hundreds of mums safely deliver healthy babies. He always felt it was a privilege to be present at the profoundly joyful moment of birth. He was loved by his patients and respected by his colleagues.

Following the death of his wife and soulmate, Sheila, George settled in Victoria, B.C. to be closer to his daughters and their families.

People live on in the memories of those who loved them. George will be lovingly remembered by his sister-in-law Nan Wedderspoon; his children Jillian (Doug McKnight), Douglas (Andrea Jellicoe) and Jennifer (Art Prowse); his grandchildren Stephanie McKnight and Shannon (Prowse) Keefe, Lindsay (Prowse) Martin and Jonathan Prowse; his great-grandchildren Benjamin and Spencer Cooper, Thomas and Annie Keefe, and Oliver and Kenley Martin; and numerous friends.

A private family memorial will be held.

Donations may be made in George's memory to the charity of your choice.

"If there's another world, he lives in bliss; If there is none, he made the best of this." Robert Burns

Jim and I were so saddened to see that George had passed away. He and Shiela had been in my life since I was six years old. When Jim and I were married in Kingston, George gave me away.
Our thoughts are with you Jill, Jennifer and Doug.

Dr. Allan and his family were well-known to my family. We lived close to each other in Kingston when I was in high school. His daughter Jill and I were good friends and still keep in touch, Dr. Allan then delivered both my sons in 1981 and 1985. He was a wonderful doctor, always kind and compassionate. He will be always remembered for his sense of humour and his ability to make you feel special. He will be greatly missed.

My sincere condolences. Dr. Allan was a wonderful doctor and beautiful person. He always had a witty response to some questions - my favourite was when asked "How are you", he would say "I keep taking one breath right after the other".
Rest in peace Dr. Allan, you will be missed.

It truly saddens me to know Dr. Allan has died. He was always friendly, jovial and enjoyed a good joke. Parkdale Medical Centre lost great friends when Sheila and George went to Victoria. RIP George.

George and Sheila lived across from us in Beacon Hill and were great friends with my parents, Bill & Joyce Snarr. I remember quite well all the times they would come up to our cottage and your dad was so full of live and so entertaining! He will be missed..

My most sincere condolences to the family of Dr. Allan. I worked with him for more than 15 years, learned a lot and enjoyed his humor while working the long night shifts. He was a well respected physician.
