My sincere condolences to the entire Cooper family and to all those who loved Mel Cooper. So many contributions to the Capital Regional District and to our province that it is hard to imagine the significant impact Mel had on so many. He was a pleasure to work with as he developed partnerships with business and community leaders. What a loss but we will continue to think of this wonderful guy for how special he was.

In the early '70s Mel was Director of Sales at CKNW in New Westminster. I held the same position at CJOB in Winnipeg. As both stations had the same owners, Mel and I would plan our Toronto and Montreal sales trips together. We would have room service at night and plan the next day. Mel was 10 years older than me and taught me a lot about National Sales.
In 1973 I got a call from Frank Griffiths and Bill Hughes who told me Mel was moving to Victoria having bot CFAX. They asked me to leave the Peg and come to CKNW to replace Mel. Didn't have to think too long! The rest is history.
Have always admired and respected Mel, or as we called him "Coop". Heartfelt condolences to Carmela and family. He was one of a kind!

Condolences to family and friends and there are many. Just as there are fond memories. My first was him meeting me at the seaplane terminal in Vancouver when he offered me a job at CKNW. What a dynamic man he was and here´s an apology to him and The Dobber...they´ll know the reason. Thanks for being a pivotal part of my life and career Mel.

First, my sincere condolences to "MEL'S" wife, Carmela, children & grandchildren & great grandchildren. The initial post(Oak Bay News)
and the excellent OBIT says it all. What a wonderful pic. I was one of
the lucky ones to be called a "friend" as I knew both MEL & Carmela well.I remember the kind tour of the original CFAX 1070 studio Mel so
kindly provided especially during an "ON-AIR" segment. I made sure to send Christmas cards. I am saddened by Mel's passing, even though he lived a very long life. Mel was not only a friend but a well respected business person and it was an honour to donate to/provide gifts for the well known SANTAS ANONYMOUS. It was an immense honour to know such a great Victorian. Carmela, treasure all the wonderful memories of such a wonderful father, husband, grand/greatfather. ([email protected])
