COOPER, George Neldon "Mel"

A Legacy of Generosity

It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of George Neldon Cooper, affectionately known as Mel by his extended family, many friends, and business colleagues. Born in St. John's, Newfoundland, on December 10, 1932, Mel departed this world on February 20, 2025, in Victoria, BC.
Mel is survived by his devoted wife, Carmela, and his beloved children; Dean, Linda (Buchanan), Cindy (Bolton-Smith), Shelley, Randy, and his stepson Michael (Costigan). Mel was also a proud grandfather of fourteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren, each of whom brought great joy to his life.
Mel was a man who truly believed in the principle that it is better to give than to receive. His numerous initiatives and contributions to the community stand as a testament to this belief. The many accolades he received in this pursuit included the Order of Canada and the Order of BC. Mel's legacy of generosity and service will be remembered by all who knew him.
Mel will always be remembered and honoured for his amazing spirit, his personal optimism, and the profound impact that he has made on the lives of so many. As Mel often said, "your attitude determines your altitude", a quote that he fully embraced and lived by.

Carmela's thoughts:

To my darling husband, Mel,

Such a void has been left in my heart and soul since your unexpected departure on February 20, 2025. Our grieving family was left begging to cover you with hugs and kisses before you slipped away. We were left devastated with unbelievable shock and complete dismay. You are totally missed with heads shaking and tears flowing, even one year later.

Thank you, my forever love.
