George was salt of the earth.. I knew him as a neighbor, colleague and friend. His cool exterior masked a deep concern and commitment to deliver his best at all times. His coolest move to my mind took place when as a Ministerial staffer in the office of the Honorable Robert Andras, he was startled to get a bill for $50,000 from Transport Canada for the Minisiter`s weekend travel to the Lakehead that should not have cost more than $1500. On enquiring he found out that the Minister had filled his plane with stranded passengers that Air Canada had abandoned and flew them to Toronto before carrying on the Ottawa. Unbeknownst to everyone, Transport bills per capita - not per flight. Rather than tell the Minister that the travel budget had been wiped out by one trip, George buried the invoice in his chair cushion. It is probably still there!

I had the good fortune of meeting George and Eileen back in 1968 when we both joined the Foreign Branch of Immigration . He was the first lad I ever met from Saskatchewan and a most worthy and proud representative . George had a great sense of humor and was known by us as the "Grey Fox ". Unfortunately, our paths never crossed again but I see his smiling face every time I read something about the Green Riders . Doug Dunnington Kitchener eissed

Dear Eileen: I was saddened to hear of George's passing. I have such good memories of him as a member of the immigration class of 1968 and of a memoral evening in Athens.
Jo joins me in sending our condolences,
