Gerald McElroy Obituary

It is with great sadness we announce the death of our beloved Gerry (Gerald Alexander McElroy, son of the late Gerald Earl McElroy) who died of a heart attack at his home on Tuesday, August 5, 2014.

Gerry leaves behind the love of his life, his wife Gina Ferraro, together 33 years. He leaves his mother, Geraldine McElroy, four brothers: Todd, Gregg, Chris & Shaun; six sisters: Lori, Sherri, Kim, Tami, Tara & Shannon; his very good friend, Mario & many nieces, nephews, cousins & close friends.

Gerald was born in Ottawa, attended University of Toronto, discovered that Victoria was Paradise. Gerry was an entrenpreneur, loved photography, reading, gourmet cooking & the McElroy Family Feeding Frenzies. He was a historian, loved mathematics, knew computers, how to fix cars & was always the first to lend a hand to all.

Gina wrote: "That Gerry was a beautiful man who gave selflessly of his time, fed everyone before himself, and took care of everything and everyone. He will be forever loved and dearly missed. He was a good man. A very good man."

His brother Shaun wrote: "That big brothers cast a long shadow, a big brother plays a special role to a boy growing up and often become the ones we emulate and inspire us, educate us. Taught me photography and darkroom techniques, gourmet cooking and the love of reading. I want to hug his shadow and never let go. Gerald was the "google" in the family long before computers. He loved to share his knowledge. If a heart can break, then there are many broken hearts today."

Celebration of life 466 Green Mountain Road, Saanich. Saturday, August 9 from 2 to 6 pm. Love forever. Your wife and family.

Gerry was a big part of our lives during the years we were neighbors. He knew every nook and cranny of our home, having either repaired them or designed and built them in the first place. And when he didn't have the time to help fix something, he always took the time to teach me how to fix it myself (usually lending me the tools as well!). He was a generous, intelligent, talented and kind man, it was a pleasure to have known him. Our hearts go out to Gina and his family, we know how sorely he will be missed. All the best -

Gerry was a remarkable person. Inquisitive, perceptive, sharing. Giving. With his passing, the empty space in many friends' hearts will will go wanting.

Condolences to every one who had the good fortune to meet him.

Ambitious boy.
speaking of old castles
not yet built by men.

Firing that ambition
with a yen for knowing.

Reaching for those dreams
high in the sky.

Laughing when the cloud he touches
is too high.

Goodbye Gerry.

Gerry so appreciated nature and beauty

Kind, patient, caring, clever, creative, gifted, Gerry has been a special friend- generous and supportive to family and friends. An amazing life partner with Gina, an amazing son and brother, who spoke so fondly & proudly of siblings, nieces and nephews. Personally, when i was with Gerry I felt safe, welcome, hopeful and lighter, so enjoyed his dialogue and humour. Thanks Gerry!
Condolences to Gina, Mommy Mac, and all Gerry's loved ones, with sympathy for this sudden sad loss.
