Gerald Strawson Obituary

STRAWSON, Gerald Raymond September 24, 1942 to November 10, 2005 Gerald (Gerry) reluctantly gave up his nearly 12-year fight with thyroid cancer early November 10th. Friends and family admired his personal ability to overcome his medical obstacles. Gerry was born to Percy and Elsie Strawson of Metchosin on September 24, 1942. He was raised with his surviving sisters, Ev (Gary) Petrie of Sooke and Janice (Dave) Martin of Victoria, and nieces & nephews Norine, Karen, Keith & Kevin all of Victoria. Also left to celebrate his life are his wife Darcee; his children, Sherry (Bill) Bentley, Tyler & Alexander of Los Angeles, CA; Deb (Mike) Strawson White, Chelsea & Brandon of Victoria; Michelle (Mark) Strawson O'Hara & Zoe of San Francisco, CA; Stacey (Chris) Veitch; and Grahame Strawson (Joelle Belanger) of Metchosin. He will be remembered by his in-laws, Lois Grahame & Ron Smith; brother-in-law Daron (Charlene) Grahame and former motherin-law Anne Nohr, brother-in-laws Jimmy and Larry Nohr, and son-in-law Ray Khan of Australia. Gerry worked for twenty-one years at E. Nixon Ltd., running excavating equipment and finished his working career after 12 years with CRD Parks, retiring in 2003. He was very active in his community, volunteering for over 15 years with the Metchosin Hall Society and serving as a trustee for the Metchosin Volunteer Fire Department. We would like to thank Dr. Derek Smith for his years of support, also most recently Dr. Steven Duke for his care and attention during his hospital stay, and the wonderful care from all the nurses on 4A South at VGH. A special thanks to Jennifer and Elizabeth for staying with him until he passed. In keeping with his years of devotion to the Metchosin Community Hall, 4401 William Head Road, there will be celebration of his life on Thursday, November 17, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations could be made to the Metchosin Hall Society, 4401 William Head Road, Victoria, BC V9C 3Y3. 174891

Hi. I drove lowbed for Webb @ Trace and worked with Gerry on many projects over the years. I have fond memories of lunch at Nixon pit weigh scale with Ed, Keith, George, Black Jack, Billy and Gerry. The jokes were hillarious. I remember Gerry as one of the really nice guys they don't seem to make any more.

My condolences,

Richard (Dick)
