Gerald Wilson Obituary
WILSON, Gerald Charles Hubert
November 30, 1930 - November 19, 2025
I am deeply saddened to announce the passing of my father, Gerald Charles Hubert Wilson, on November 19, 2025, 8 days shy of his 95th birthday. Dad is predeceased by his loving wife, Norma, and his daughter, Helen. He is survived by me, his son, Richard.
Dad was born in Stockport, a town of greater Manchester, England. He lost both parents at an early age and was raised as a teen by his sister, Muriel. After successfully completing his Higher School Certificate, he announced to her he was going to become an Engineer. "No", she replied. " I've applied for you to go to medical school".
Dad graduated a physician from the University of Manchester in 1954. Part way through his studies, he went on a blind date, induced by the offer of a free dinner. There he met Norma Thackeray Jones, a physiotherapist. They married September 3, 1955. November 2, the next year, they welcomed a daughter, Helen.
A plea for physios in Saskatchewan caught the eye of my mother. She applied and was immediately accepted. Umm...can I bring my husband, he's a doctor" "Okay", was the reply.
he Wilsons immigrated to Canada November 1, 1957. I was delivered July 19, 1958 in the Saskatoon University Hospital. We then moved to Red Deer, Alberta, for a few years to eventually continue to Victoria, BC. This became home.
After several years commuting back and forth to Vancouver, Dad qualified as a Radiologist. He accepted a position at the Royal Jubilee Hospital and remained on staff over 30 years. He called this the happiest most fruitful time of his career. His colleagues were some of his closest friends.
Dad enjoyed many activities and hobbies. He loved classical music, travelling, photography, wood turning and sailing. He always said, "After marrying Norma, the best thing I ever did was emigrate, and live in Victoria.
At Dad's request, there will be no service.
