Glenn Newsome Obituary

NEWSOME, Glenn Allan
November 16, 1951 - July 22, 2023
Glenn Allan Newsome passed away peacefully in his sleep during the early morning hours of July 22, 2023. He was 71 years old. Glenn was predeceased by his mother Emma Newsome and father Thomas Newsome. He will be sadly missed by his three brothers Richard (Beverley), Bill and Dave (Marnie), his three daughters Jennifer, Andrea and Alyse, seven grandchildren and five nieces and two nephews, his dear friend Al and all the folks at the Monkey Tree Pub. Glenn's greatest joy came from spending time with his grandson Lucas.
Glenn graduated from Victoria High School in 1969 and quickly went to work for the BC Department of Highways. After a few years, he joined the Engineering Department of the Municipality of Saanich where he stayed for 33 years until his retirement.

Glenn was a passionate sports fan. He loved college football, the Boston Bruins and was a life-long Chicago Cubs fan. He briefly thought of asking six of the Cubs players to be pall bearers but changed his mind saying he didn't want them to let him down one more time.
Glenn was proud of teaching baseball fundamentals to his three daughters as well as his 17 years coaching baseball at Lakehill, Hampton and National Little League. He also loved golf and was very good at it. In whatever he did, he made many long-lasting friendships.
Glenn (Howie) will be remembered for his humour, kindness, and his willingness to always help family and friends.
At Glenn's request there will not be a service. A celebration of Glenn's life, however, will be held on Saturday, August 19th between 2:00pm - 4:00pm at the Monkey Tree Pub.

We had not seen each other for awhile, but you came to mind so often, like my grandson playing at Hampton and saying to my son that my old buddy had helped make that park what it is today. Also the help you gave me with Findlayson field when we (Vic West soccer) put the lights up. I will miss you my friend. May you rest in peace. Lew

You were not only my brother you were one of my best friends. You taught me how to listen and have empathy for other people.

I will miss our telephone conversations, family gatherings and most of all drinks on your patio.

I will cheer for the Chicago Cubs, the Bears and the Boston Bruins for you.

I miss you every day.....
