Glenn Travers Obituary

TRAVERS, Glenn Hilda (nee Peachey)
Born July 3, 1929, in Regina, Saskatchewan, Glenn passed away peacefully in her Victoria, BC home on the morning of August 10, 2025. Glenn is survived by her loving husband and lifetime companion Donald 'Ken' Travers, and her two sons Geoff (Annemarie) and Don (Kati). Glenn was predeceased by her much-loved daughter Kathy (Bob). Glenn is also survived by her dear sister Jean (Bill).
Glenn shared many special moments with her three grandchildren Erin (Seth), Caitlin (Paul) and Bryan - whether she was sewing them costumes, making incredible sandwiches or offering a listening ear - she was always there. Glenn also lived long enough to joyfully welcome and hold four great-grandchildren Saoirse, Avery, Ciara and Theo who lovingly knew Glenn as 'GG'.
A young child of the Great Depression, Glenn and her older sister Jean experienced many happy times at the family ranch in the Cypress Hills area of Saskatchewan. At the young age of just four, Glenn's parents (Roland and Mary) decided to move the family away from the "Dust Bowl" to Whitecourt, AB. Packing three wagons with their possessions, they joined four of Glenn's uncles to drive 60 horses, 725 km north, selling some of the horses along the way to cover expenses.
The Peachey family eventually settled in Lethbridge where in Grade 10 Glenn met and fell in love with Ken, "a handsome young man", which started an 80-year relationship. They married on September 17, 1949. The bank soon transferred them to Ponoka and then on to Calgary in 1951 where they purchased their first home and started their family. In 1961 they moved to Toronto for two years before being transferred to Vancouver where they stayed until 1973. Those were joyful, busy years of family life and developing friendships.
In August 1973, the couple moved on to Victoria where Glenn further developed her lifetime passion for gardening, taking delight in introducing Kathy, Geoff and granddaughters Erin and Caitlin to the wonders of the garden. In the late 1970's Glenn became a devoted Christian, which would become ever present during the remainder of her life. Glenn's obvious intelligence and desire to learn came to the fore as she delved deeper into her religious studies. As part of her demonstration of her faith, Glenn was also an active volunteer, serving the homeless community in a variety of roles.
Glenn shared a love of the outdoors with Ken. They spent many years enjoying the access to the coast that sailing provides and were long term members of the Royal Victoria Yacht Club. They also enjoyed many years camping in their Westfalia with winter trips south to Utah/California, and frequent summer trips around the Island, often to Tofino to visit Don and Kati, plus one very memorable trip north to the Yukon and Alaska with Jean and Bill.
Glenn also had a passion for travel trips to Hawaii and more adventurous journeys through Greece, France, Denmark and Portugal with a highlight visit to the Holy Lands.
Mom - your smile, heart, and beautiful garden will forever be missed.
A service is being planned for family and close friends to honour Glenn's amazing life.
