Gordon Denford Obituary

DENFORD, Gordon Albert Charles
July 22, 1927 - October 17, 2025
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Gordon Denford on Friday, October 17th, 2025 in Victoria, BC.

At the age of 13, Gordon was evacuated from his beloved English home of Bristol. Spending his teens on his own in foster care and then later in residence at university in Winnipeg, Gordon's formative years fostered a sense of fierce independence and strong self-reliance. This led to a long and successful career in business, capped by his founding and building of Berwick Retirement Communities. Gordon also gave his time and resources to many community organizations and charities.

A remarkable life truly well lived.

Gordon is survived by daughters Laura (Alan) and Andrea (Daren), sons Michael (Joanne) and Chris (Anne), and many grandchildren and two great-granddaughters. He is predeceased by daughter Valerie and his former wife and life-long friend, Allyson.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 10th, 2026 at 2pm at the Saanich Fairgrounds Main Hall located at 1528 Stelly's Cross Road in Saanichton.

Yesterday

A man I greatly respected while enjoying his company. Some of my best childhood memories were spent with his son Chris.
water skiing behind his boat, watching them partying to ABBA, letting me sleep over weeks at a time in the summers.
He was always kind and happy to share advice.
He will be greatly missed. But his positive legacy shall live on.

We're very sorry to hear about Gordon's passing. He was a tremendous supporter of education, families, and friends, including at Glenlyon and Glenlyon Norfolk. His efforts benefitted so many people, and even in his final decades, he was creating wonderful homes with his vision of Berwick. Sending our love to the Denford family.
