Gordon Gillow Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gordon Douglas "Doug" Gillow on May 29, 2025, in Victoria, BC, at the age of 89. Doug passed peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family, after a short battle with cancer.

Born in Preston, Ontario, Doug lost his father at the young age of two and was raised in Paris, Ontario, by his mother, Lilian, and later by his stepfather, Matt Chuchry. Doug left high school in Grade 10 to begin working as a printer at Walker Press, before finding his calling as a Chief Surveyor in both Ontario and Alberta, where he worked until his retirement.

On November 4, 1961, Doug married the love of his life, Judith "Judy" Carolyn Corbett. Together, they raised two beautiful daughters: Cathy Kiczula (Brent Rahn) and Kelly Munro (Michael "Mick" Dalla-Vicenza). Doug was an incredibly proud and loving grandfather to Ryan & Dylan Kiczula and Courtney & Katelyn Munro.

Doug had a lifelong love for the outdoors and enjoyed watching and playing many sports. He was a gifted baseball player, competing from Bantam through Junior levels, and continued to play and coach well into his retirement. In his later years, Doug resided at The Rose Manor in downtown Victoria, where he enjoyed daily walks, bike rides, rounds of golf, and cheering on the Toronto Blue Jays!

Doug is survived by his daughters, Cathy and Kelly, and his grandchildren, Ryan, Dylan, Courtney, and Katelyn. He is also survived by his sister, Anne Thomas (Don), and nieces and nephews: Carol Thomas (Jeff), Linda Stockton (Rick), Nancy Rose, Tracy Irvin, Robert Thomas (Marge), Mike King (Pat), Harry Prince (Claudia), and Paul Prince (Chris). Doug was predeceased by his beloved wife, Judy (May 7, 1942 - August 16, 2006), and his parents, Gordon Gillow and Lilian Chuchry.

Doug's kindness, humor, selflessness, and deep love for his family will be remembered always. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers and gifts, donations can be made to MAiDHouse Victoria in memory of Doug Gillow.
