Gordon HEMSWORTH Obituary

Tom passed away peacefully August 27, 2021, surrounded by his children. Born in London, Ontario, he later moved to Montreal and attended McGill University and then practised dentistry in Victoria for nearly four decades. Tom was an avid sailor and even after sailing across the Atlantic in his early 20's, dealing with extreme weather, a seasick skipper and crew, he was determined to continue his love for sailing and would experience everything the West coast had to offer including racing in the Swiftsure and Vic-Maui International yacht races. Tom was meticulous in the dental procedures he performed and was also a skilled woodworker who could build most anything with fine precision. "Neaters" as he was called in school, was as fastidious as his neat freak nickname implied. Predeceased by his parents Lloyd and Betty Hemsworth, Tom will be dearly missed and is survived by his daughters Jennifer (Peter) and Dana; sons Andrew (Carol), Ryan (Stephanie) and Brent (Telah); grandchildren Rhayne, Chance, Karter, Kale and Mya; sister Sally; nieces, nephews and his beloved dog Bella. Dad loved songs by the Eagles and these words seem appropriate for his final voyage: "I'm going back in time and it's a sweet dream. It was a quiet night and I would be alright if I could go on sleeping". No service by request.

Our condolences to Brent and ALL of Dr. Hemsworth (Tom’s) Family.
We are saddened to learn of his recent passing.
Tom was our Family Dentist for many, many years, until his retirement. He was kind, patient, professional and exact ‘The BEST Dentist, ever’, and he was ‘our Friend’.

To all of Dr. Hemsworth's (Tom's) family. I am so sorry to hear the news. Tom was my dentist from when I was 16 until he retired, (many, many years). I would never have gone to another dentist if it weren't for his having to retire. Other dentists that I knew would joke when hearing I had Tom as mine: "He leaves his initials in your fillings he is that good".

Tom later became a patient where I worked so I got to stay in touch with him. We had many a long conversation which he kept me up to speed on his family and what he had been doing.
I will truly miss Tom. My thoughts are with you all.

I am sorry to read about Tom's passing. He was my dentist for many, many
years. He certainly had my respect as my dentist. I would occasionally see him out at Westport Marina where he had his boat. My blessings to his family. He will be greatly missed by so many in the community.
