Gordon Thompson Obituary


THOMPSON, Gordon John February 20, 1918 July 28, 2009 Gordon passed away peacefully at Victoria General Hospital in the presence of his loving and devoted wife Cathy of 63 years, his daughter Donna and son Neil (Julie). Predeceased by his daughter Doreen Mooney, brother Cecil, sisters Viola Bell and Lila Senft. Dearly missed by sisters Clara Juckes, Vivian (Doug) Peterson, son-in-law Mike Mooney (Mary), grandchildren Barbara (Steve) Millward, Jennifer (Sebastian) Ackroyd, Tyler and Celese Thompson and four great grandchildren Jacob, Jaime, Liam Millward and Branwen Ackroyd. Gordon served in the Armed Forces in Canada and overseas in WWII from 1940 1944. He worked as a printer for The Victoria Press for 29 years. He enjoyed and played in various sports, hunting, fishing, golf, curling, baseball, bowling and gardening. He was noted for his sense of humor and strength of character. Many thanks to Dr. Forster and the caring staff at VGH. A Celebration of Gordon's Life will be held at First Memorial Funeral Services, 4725 Falaise Drive on Tuesday, August 4th, 2009 at 11:00AM with a reception to follow. I have thought of Gordon for most of my life even though I never did meet him. In Sept. 1982 he responded to a letter I had written to him. I have that to cherish. I'm glad he did know a little about me.
