Gordon Wallace Obituary

Passed away peacefully after a brief bout with a very aggressive cancer. He did not resist death, saying he'd had everything he could possibly desire in life: a happy marriage of nearly 57 years, a wonderful family, many good friends all over the world, including the ones made during his 33 years of retirement in Victoria. To all he says "Keep on hiking."

Gord is survived by his loving wife Dea, his son Rob (Jenna), his daughter Shelagh (Doug), twin grandsons Ben and Simon Friesen and granddaughter Ellie Wallace. He was predeceased by his faithful buddy Wicket on October 7th.

No service at this time, but watch for the last "Gord's beef on a bun" gathering in the spring.

In lieu of flowers or donations, Gord says "Lend a hand and help maintain our hiking trails."

Dear Dea, Shelagh/Doug, Rob/Jenna,
I am sad about your loss and have been thinking of each of you.
A lot of people have been blessed by Gord's kindness, and that along with his thoughtfulness towards me, made him so much more than a cousin.
I feel so happy that Gord and I had gotten to know each other in our later years, and I have
been missing him too.
With Love,
Jeanne

Dear Dea,

My sympathy to you and your family.

I have fond memories of hiking with Gord and Gerry. I was with the group that went to the Bugaboos, and I remember when a busload of hikers went to the Kludahk trailhead and you and Gord met us on the trail near the end with a huge icebox full of cold drinks in your truck. I am a member of the OCV and only a short time with the Cordova Bay hikers.

Grief is hard when losing your husband and friend of many years.

Sincerely,
Shirley Traviss

Dear Dea, I´m so sorry to hear about Gord. You and he were were the first to welcome me to Gyro park nearly 10 years ago. Wicket used to "dance" with my grand-dog Tiki. Gord gave me good advice about hiking trails.
When I last chatted with you in the Fall, Wicket was ailing. I thought that was the reason for not seeing you recently in the park. I hope you´ll return, Dea, when you feel up to it.

Thinking of you and your family,
Lyn

From the whole Dowler family, and Wylie (who's not so great with the internet), we send love and hugs. Uncle Gordon was the just the kindest, funniest, most energetic inspiration. We will miss him dearly, and we'll cherish a lifetime of wonderful memories.

I could not imagine a better neighbour. I will miss Gord´s company and guidance in the yard and garden, his friendly chuckle, and his amazing hot cross buns and early morning bread rolls.
