Grace PITMAN Obituary

PITMAN, Grace July 11, 1911 - January 20, 2013 Grace slipped away quietly having lived 101yrs. She was the third of eight children born to Florence and James Kehoe of Sidley, BC. She is predeceased by her husband, Reginald F. Pitman, five of her siblings and all in-laws. She is sadly missed by her sister, Sam Holm (Victoria), brother, John Kehoe (Kamloops), daughter, Lorraine Whiting (Victoria), grandson, Cal Whiting (Calgary) and many nieces, nephews & friends. She and Reg moved to Port Alberni shortly after their marriage in 1937. They designed and built their family home where Grace resided for 51 yrs. Grace graduated from the BC Normal School in Victoria in 1931 and enjoyed teaching. She was a co-founder of a local square dancing club, active in community affairs and in the Sunshine Club. She was an encourager and loved for her wit, optimism, & kindness. In Oct. 2006, Grace moved to the 'Cridge Village for Seniors' in Victoria, where she enjoyed activities and received caring service by Cridge staff, Beacon Services home support workers and VIHA Community services. The family gratefully thanks all those individuals who comprised that care plus the compassionate Hospice staff care in her last few days of life. A memorial service will be held in Port Alberni on May 4th 2013. Lorraine, my condolences to you and Cal. I know you will miss your Mother so much. I enjoyed all the visits I spent with her. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.
