Grant Yancey Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Grant Yancey, who left us peacefully on November 23, 2025, just 4 days shy of his 72nd birthday. Grant was born in Edmonton and grew up in Fawcett, Alberta. Together with his wife and children they made their life in Victoria, where they built a strong network of friends, through work, volunteering, baseball, and community events.
Grant shared 51 beautiful years of marriage with the love of his life, Linda. They created a home filled with love, laughter, and unwavering devotion. Grant was immensely proud of their 4 children: Brooks (Erin), Stefan (Jadea), Ben (Alia), and Megan (Dwayne). Being their father and a husband - and later a grandfather - is what he cherished most. He is lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Caleb, Logan, Parker, Drew, Everett, Nixon, and Carmanah, each of whom brought him deep happiness.
Grant is also survived by his brother Vic Yancey (Anna), and he leaves behind a large and cherished extended family of in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends across Alberta and beyond - each of whom held him close and loved him dearly.
Grant spent his career as a respiratory therapist, and he dedicated many years to serving his community as a volunteer firefighter in View Royal. He also enjoyed working as a part-time farmer alongside his brother-in-law, embracing the rhythm of the land and the satisfaction of honest work.
Grant will be remembered for his calming presence, his humour, his devotion to family, and his deep capacity for kindness. He showed his loved ones what it meant to live with integrity and an open heart, and he leaves behind a legacy rooted in generosity, service, and the enduring bonds of family.
Grant's absence will be felt profoundly, but the impact of his life - and the love he poured into those around him - will live on in all who knew him.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, December 21st at 1:00 p.m. at the Victoria Scottish Community Centre in View Royal.

His light and that beautiful smile shine on and shine honorably bright in his children and grandchildren. A job well done Grant! You will be missed by all those lucky enough to have shared in the gift that was you. Your gift as a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather uncle and friend. Rest well buddy and heads up and hearts full to the Yancey family.

I was so sad to learn about Grant´s passing. My memories of walking into ICU and seeing Grant as the RT always brought calm and reassurance to me. I loved his family stories and how much he cherished his children. I am so sorry for your loss! I will always remember his great warm smile!

As so many people have already said "what a nice person he was" I played slo-pitch with him for the VR fire dept & the whole team felt like family. Your children were so young then. The picture on Facebook made me realize how darn old I am. I wonder if Megan remembers when she was having a sad day at the ball park ( she about 5-6) so I let her wear my Mickey Mouse socks with ears & she was happy. Love to you all. Jackie Parker

I worked with Grant over many years at both VGH and the Jubilee Hospitals. He was my clinical supervisor at the Jubilee and we both retired the same day in 2014. Grant was a friendly guy who stuck up for his staff. All of his former colleagues are saddened by his passing. Here's a pic from the early 1990's of Grant, myself and Betty (another Jubilee RT) at a summer RT party at his place. RIP amigo. Bob Laidler

Condolences to Linda, truly the love of Grant's life, their children and grandchildren. He was a lifelong friend that never pretended to be anything other than what he was; a genuinely nice person who unashamedly loved his family and was a friend who had your back. So many happy times shared, he will be greatly missed. Will never play a game of Mexican Train without thinking of him and Linda. His kids will remember the Grant and Jess hunting story that ended up with a train vs truck situation. So thankful for the trip they made back to Fawcett for Thanksgiving and getting to have a wonderful visit. Love to all.

With great sadness we heard about Grants passing. A good Friend, teammate, kayaker and socializer. Many memories, pushing Linda in a grocery cart, after ball get-togethers, visiting and meeting family. Kind, gracious and humorous. Thoughts to Linda and family. Daryl & Lorna

My condolences to all of Grant's family. I worked for Grant at the hospital. He was a fabulous boss and became a good friend to me. I shall always remember him as one of the kindest and fairest of individuals who made me laugh on a daily basis with his great humour. Bye Grant.
