Gregory Macaulay Obituary

Greg was born on January 14, 1944, to Terence and Teresa Macaulay, the son of a Royal Canadian Air Force pilot. Growing up in a military family, he lived in cities across Canada and in France, developing a strong sense of adaptability, adventure and curiosity.

At just 17, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force himself, serving as a safety systems technician with dedication and pride. He gave 20 years of honourable service before retiring and beginning a second career with Canada Post - a move that eventually brought him to the West Coast.

While stationed in Baden-Baden, Germany, he met Elizabeth Macaulay (née Gibson). The two were married on November 4, 1965, and shared nearly 60 years of love, laughter and partnership.

They raised two daughters: Christina, born in Ottawa and Carolyn, born in Comox - both a constant source of pride and joy.

He later welcomed Jason Maycock (Carolyn) and Jonathan Lee (Christina) into the family with warmth and open arms, and was a deeply devoted grandfather to Mackenzie and Matthew Lee.

After retirement, Greg and Betty spent many joyful winters in Mexico, embracing the sun, the culture and the slower pace of life - yet always returning home to be close to family and friends.

Greg lived by two core principles in life:
"If you're going to do something - do it right" and "Don't let fear stop you."

Greg brought this mindset to everything he did, from fixing engines to raising daughters, to living a full and meaningful life.

Greg will be remembered as a man of integrity, humour and heart. He loved deeply, laughed often, and left behind a legacy of stories, strength and spirited living.

He will be missed beyond words - but forever carried in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

A celebration of life will be held at 888 (Stocky Edwards) Wing RCAFA, 1298 Military Row, Comox, BC on August 24, 2025 at 1300.

To many Datsun enthusiasts all over the Pacific Northwest, Greg was seen as the godfather of this brand of car. He was a passionate, knowledgeable collector who loved restoring these cars and helping those with a similar interest. He was one of a kind and now missed by that entire community.

Cars brought Greg and I together but it was his openness and generous spirit that made us close friends. I will miss him.
