Guy was a man's man, and much more; and of course a sailor. I admired him. I learned from him despite our brief encounters. Well done Guy. You left your mark.

I was a resident in Anaesthesia at the VGH in the 1960s before Guy moved to Victoria and when he was my boss. He was an excellent careful anaesthetist who always remained calm even when the surgeon was panicking, and nobody could have been kinder and more reassuring to his patients. Although about 10 years my senior he treated me as an equal immediately and we became good friends outside the hospital. It was Berenice who introduced Guy to Vicki - the rest is history. The photo: Guy with horizontal Vicki and Berenice!
Not many people achieve so much in their lives as Guy did - both academically and in the sporting world. He was clever, generous, and had a great sense of humour; we are fortunate to have a copy of his Malaysian memoirs.
We will all miss him and we convey our condolences to Vicki and the whole family.

I am so sorry to see the death of Dr. Screech. I was not a personal friend but a patient. I first met him in 1986 when I was visiting my terminally ill mother in RJH. I was very upset as I left her room and for the first and only time in my life I fainted. When I awoke there was this kind gentle man kneeling over me talking softly to me and assuring me I was fine and would be OK. He helped me onto a gurney and stayed with me while I was taken down to emergency to be checked over. Fortunately, I was not injured but it was just emotion. I tried to locate this doctor to thank him for his kindness but could never find an address for him. Years later I was in RJH again this time for emergency surgery. The same gentleman came up to me to announce he would be my anesthetist for the surgery. I recognized him immediately and started to say 'you won't remember me' when he said, of course I do. You fainted by the elevator when your Mother was in the hospital. I was so shocked. He remembered me literally over a decade later. That was the kind of man and doctor he was. Truly remarkable and I know he will be missed by all his family friends. R.I.P. Dr. Screech you deserve it.

Commiserations to the family. I worked with Guy over many years of medical practice. He was exemplary in anaesthesiology and a real gentleman.

Guy was a man's man, and someone I admired very much as a gentleman, sailor, physician, and friend. He completed the marathon of life ahead of that most could aspire to. Condolences to Vicki and family and cheers to the memory of Guy, a real man.

I knew Guy from a volunteer surgery mission to Guatemala. He was so kind and so interesting. He led a long and purposeful life. Special sympathy to Martin, whom I know from Dance Victoria, and Vicki.
