I only remember meeting Gwen a few times over my life long friendship with Esther, Coleen and Betty but this news really struck me since only a few weeks ago Esther read me some words written by her in an email and told me how her cousin was the most positive and brave woman she knows...Thinking of all the family...

In my memories we are all still children, at Grandma and Grandpa Patterson's farm,
Offering snacks to the maple mare, Buttercup, with open hands
Listening and watching as the sheep answered to Grandpa's call in their language
Gazing around the barn to see how many shapes and sizes of eggs the chicken lay
Thinking how brave Esther and Nadine were, trying to catch the feral kittens
Gazing at the sow and her many, many piglets
Esther and Darryl climbing under the house to find Tammie the collie
Admiring how stray cats such as Scuttie and Black Puddie came to love Grandma and her gentleness the way we did
Later, sitting down to Grandma's hot tea and fresh Irish soda bread
and your determination watching Grandma's hand measures for her Irish soda bread (smile)
While listening to Great Granny and her lively, entertaining stories of life in Ireland
Later, perhaps looking out the big window to see tall grass softly swaying in the breeze
While swarms of birds arose up into the sky
At the same time, daffodils lifting their sunny gazes to behold blueness
Whilst the fir trees hushed later towards the evening sky
With many loving thoughts and prayers for you, cousin Coleen

I used to meet every Thursday for grouping with Gwendolyn. She was such an inspiration and exuded so much joy and love of life. She sure loved you, Richard. I remember seeing her dance outside at Jazz Festival with a twinkle in her eye! What a beautiful woman, Colleen

Dear Richard.
My sincerest and heartfelt condolences to you. I will always cherish how she reached out and provided support to our family. I met Gwen at 21 in Victoria. As a peer I saw her grow and evolve into a talented, passionate and remarkable woman with many talents. She fought the good fight and now is cradled in the arms of God. May His strength and those who love you be with you in the days ahead.

Gwendolyn has a large family who loved her dearly and we have many memories of years she spent with us as she grew into an independent, courageous woman. Most will not be able to attend the service in Saskatoon but plan to attend a memorial to be held in Victoria at a time and place to be announced.
