JENKINS, Harry December 15, 1920 - January 26, 2014 It is with sadness that we announce the death of Harry Jenkins. He died peacefully on Sunday afternoon, the 26th of January, surrounded by loving family and while listening to some of the beautiful old hymns he was so fond of singing. He is survived by his wife and dearest companion Doreen. They were married for over 67 years. Other members of the family include Harry's brother John and his wife Pat; Harry's daughter Louise, her husband Charles, their son Andrew, Jessica - his wife - and their children, Zach and Emma; Louise and Charles' daughter Sarah and James Griffin; Harry's son Paul, his wife Jean and their daughters Erica and Katherine Ryan--with her husband Mike. Harry served for many years with both the Royal Navy and the Royal Canadian Navy in the Engineering Branch. After having retired from the Navy in 1970, he worked from 1974 until 1985 as the Chief Engineer with St. Mary's Hospital in Sechelt. While there, he delighted in going the extra mile to help people. He was well loved - and then much missed - when he and Doreen decided to move and start a new phase of their lives here on the Island. While in Victoria, both Harry and Doreen worked as volunteers with the Cancer Lodge and that, along with helping neighbours and family, working at the church and thinking up various workshop projects, kept Harry pretty busy! He also thoroughly enjoyed using his fine tenor voice in singing with the Arion Men's Choir. Doreen and Harry enjoyed traveling and Harry took a lovely collection of photographs over the years. He and Doreen were both born in Plymouth, England. They dearly loved Canada and their lives here, but both held fond memories of the early days in Devon as well. Harry's funeral will be held this coming Friday, January 31st, 2014 at 2:00 o'clock at Peace Lutheran Church, 2295 Weiler Ave., Sidney. Special thanks to Pastor Erik Trovall of Peace Lutheran for all his many kindnesses and to the very professional and caring staff at Resthaven Lodge in Sidney. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Cancer Society, recognizing Harry and Doreen's many years of volunteer service at the Cancer Lodge. Condolences may be offered to the family at
