Helen ANGLEHART Obituary

After a long and happy life, Helen passed away peacefully at Maplewood Retirement Community in Ottawa on August 14, 2025, in her 92nd year. She was predeceased by her husband Rolly (Rolland) Anglehart (1924 - 2007) and her parents, Jim and Ethel Platt. She will be sadly missed by her daughter Brenda Chartrand (Allan MacGillivray), and sons Dwight (Marie Chafe) and James (Linda Reven), as well as loving grandchildren Colin, Mara, Blandine, Sadrac, and Natacha.

Helen was born in Hamilton Ontario though she was proud of her mother's Newfoundland roots (née Ethel Antle). She met Rolly in 1954 in Sudbury where Brenda was born. Sons Dwight and James were born after Rolly and Helen moved first to Orleans then to Ottawa. While Rolly managed Vic Tanny's Health Clubs, Helen was ahead of her time as a pioneer of health food (her idea of yum was wheat germ and flaxseed pancakes) and an entrepreneur in selling real hair wigs. After moving the family to Victoria BC in 1973, Rolly purchased and managed Crestwood Kitchens, a successful kitchen cabinet business. Helen was very involved in the lives of her three children while supporting Rolly in his business career. She became an avid duplicate bridge player and was quite proud being awarded with a Lifetime Master designation by the American Contract Bridge League. She will be missed at the Victoria Bridge Centre in Esquimalt.

She was an excellent cook and accomplished hostess. An invitation to dinner was much sought after by friends and neighbours, especially Morris and Margaret Dunn, and Roko and Eva Klinman of Victoria, BC.

She'll be remembered for her intelligence, wit, and sense of humour. During a hospital stay, she commented on the food: "For dessert, there was carrot cake. I don't know what got away first, the carrot or the rabbit, but it wasn't very good."

After moving back to Ottawa in 2021 to be closer to her daughter, she took up residence at the Maplewood Retirement Community. The family would like to thank Dr. Ruth Farey and the amazing nursing and PSW staff at Maplewood for the excellent care and comfort provided.

A private interment at Royal Oak Burial Park in Victoria, BC will occur in October.

Our deepest sympathy Brenda. It was such a pleasure meeting your dad and mom some 30 years ago or so while visiting Victoria from Ottawa. Here we are now literally steps away where your parents lived in Broadmead.
Take care Brenda.
