DONG, Herbert Yow Wai
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Herbert Yow Wai Dong on November 26th, 2024. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Malinda, and their two daughters, Nonalee (Robert) and Heather Chi Ping. He is also survived by his sisters Dorothy, Rosabelle (Peter), Ida (Jim), and Dora, as well as his brothers Henry (June), Jayce (Deanna), Jack (Sandy), and Willard. Herbert was a proud and devoted grandfather to his beautiful grandchildren, Quinten, Chloé, Vivian, and Sophia.
He was predeceased by his siblings: Yau Tak, Anita, Doreen, Naida, Betty, Raymond, and Allan.
Born in Metchosin BC in 1934, he graduated from Victoria High School. Herb was a long time entrepreneur and developer who greatly contributed to the growth and prosperity of the Southern Vancouver Island community. Herb travelled widely in Asia and Europe, went to many concerts, and loved to spend time with his large network of friends and relatives. His legacy of hard work, kindness, and generosity will be remembered by all who knew him.
A service to celebrate Herb's life will be held at McCall Gardens on December 9th at 2pm, followed by a tea reception.
