Ian Sherlock Obituary
SHERLOCK, Ian Peter
22 June 1934 - 1 January 2026
Ian Sherlock passed away quietly New Year's Day aged 91 in Ottawa, Canada after a short stay in hospital surrounded by family. He happily joins his wife of more than 60 years, the late June Rosemary Sherlock (formerly Hill).
He was Dad to Sandra (David), Keith (Donna) and Peter (Vivian), proud Grandad to Renee (Cole), Andrew (Narelle) and Taylor; delighted Great-Grandad to Kate & Elaina, Brylee & Kurt. Ian is survived by his sister, Margaret Sherlock (Nora).
Lt Col Sherlock was an RMC graduate, Class of '56, and enjoyed a career with Eastern Command, an officer exchange based in Key West, Florida and an attaché to Australia and New Zealand based in Canberra. He pursued a life-long passion for sailing that was first cultivated at school in Plon, Germany at the end of WWII. Ian and June travelled widely. His favourite holiday was a yacht charter in Greece for their silver wedding anniversary with friends. Closer to home he enjoyed good food & wine, bridge, cryptic crosswords and mystery novels. Ian and June spent their retirement years in Brentwood Bay and Sidney, BC.
In keeping with Ian's wishes, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, when his ashes are scattered. In Memoriam donations to the Saanich Peninsula Hospital Foundation are greatly appreciated.
